When I was 18 years old, I came to America. I didn't know anyone, and I didn't speak any
English. I got a job as a dishwasher in a restaurant, and I worked long hours for very little pay.
I worked hard, and I saved my money. After a few years, I was able to open my own restaurant. I
worked even harder, and my restaurant became successful.
I am now a successful businessman. I have a big house, a nice car, and I can afford to send my
children to the best schools.
But I am not happy. I am not happy because I am still treated as a second-class citizen in this
country. I am still discriminated against because of my race.
I am tired of being treated like an outsider. I am tired of being made to feel like I don't belong
here.
I am an American citizen. I pay my taxes. I follow the law. I contribute to this society.
I am not asking for special treatment. I am just asking for equal treatment.
I am not asking for much. I am just asking for what is rightfully mine.
I am an Asian American, and I am proud of it. I am not ashamed of my race. I am not ashamed
of my heritage.
I am proud to be an American.
I am not alone. There are millions of Asian Americans who feel the same way I do. We are tired
of being treated as second-class citizens. We are tired of being discriminated against.
We are not going to take it anymore. We are going to fight back. We are going to demand equal
treatment. We are going to make this country a better place for all of us.
