Essay: Romeo And Juliet

This Romeo and Juliet play was written by William Shakespeare in 1957. The story takes place in Verona (Italy),

where two rival families live, the Capulets and the Montagues. It narrates the love and tragedy of two characters:

Romeo and Juliet. Both are from different families and enemies; they fall in love but because of the enmity

between their relatives, love leads them to death.

Romeo son of Montague; young, handsome and passionate. One day he decided to go to a Capulet party with a

mask, so they wouldn't recognize him. There he met Juliet, Capulet's daughter, for the first time; young, beautiful

and innocent. In that party both fell madly in love.

They were married just the day after the party, with the help of Friar Lorenzo, a priest friend of Romeo. When the

Capulets found out that Romeo had been at the party, they were upset. And for this reason, a cousin of Juliet

(Tebaldo), challenged Romeo's friend (Mercury), to fight a duel. Romeo intervened in the fight and ended up killing

Tybalt, Juliet's cousin.

As a consequence Romeo had to leave Verona, for Mantua. Everyone discovered the secret marriage between

Romeo and Juliet; where Julieta’s parents forced her to marry the Count of Paris. She plans to take a narcotic to

make it look like she was dead, and Romeo, thinking that his lover's death was real, decided to take poison. When

Juliet wakes up and sees her beloved Romeo dead, she decides to also take the poison to end his life.

That rivalry led the children to the despair of making decisions that would lead them to death. This tragedy had to

happen for both families to forgive and reconcile. This work teaches us that problems are best solved with truth

and dialogue. Hatred, arguments and misunderstandings end and in the end what matters is love.
