1. Determine the Business Name: Choose a unique name for your single proprietor business that does not
infringe on exis=ng trademarks or registered business names. Consider a name that reflects the nature of
your business and is easy to remember.
2. Verify Business Name Availability: Check the availability of your desired business name with the
Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) through their online registra=on system or by visi=ng a DTI office.
Conduct a search to ensure no other business is already using the same or similar name.
4. Submit the Applica=on: Visit the nearest DTI office and submit your completed applica=on form, along
with the required documents and payment. The DTI staff will review your applica=on and process your
business name registra=on.
5. Obtain Barangay Clearance: Visit your local Barangay Hall and apply for a Barangay Clearance. Prepare
the following documents:
- Valid ID: Bring a photocopy of your valid iden=fica=on card.
- DTI Business Name Cer=ficate: Provide a copy of your DTI Business Name Cer=ficate.
- Applica=on Fee: Pay the required fee as per the Barangay's regula=ons.
6. Acquire Mayor's Permit (Business License): Proceed to your Municipal or City Hall and apply for a
Mayor's Permit. Follow these steps:
- Secure an applica=on form from the Business Permit and Licensing Office (BPLO).
- Accomplish the form and a\ach the following documents:
- DTI Business Name Cer=ficate
- Barangay Clearance
- Lease Contract or Land Title: Provide proof of business address.
- Fire Safety Inspec=on Cer=ficate: Obtain this cer=ficate from the Bureau of Fire Protec=on (BFP).
- Pay the necessary fees and taxes as assessed by the BPLO.
- Submit the complete applica=on and suppor=ng documents for review and processing.
7. Register with the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR): Visit the BIR Revenue District Office (RDO) where
your business is located and accomplish the following steps:
- Secure a copy of BIR Form 1901 (Applica=on for Registra=on) and related forms.
- Fill out the forms, providing accurate informa=on about your business, nature of opera=ons, and
taxpayer details.
- Submit the accomplished forms along with the following suppor=ng documents:
- DTI Business Name Cer=ficate
- Mayor's Permit
- Proof of Business Address: Lease contract or land =tle
- Photocopy of Valid ID
- A\end the BIR seminar and orienta=on, if required.
- Pay the registra=on fee and obtain your Cer=ficate of Registra=on (COR) and Taxpayer Iden=fica=on
Number (TIN).
11. Compliance with Other Agencies: Depending on the nature of your business, you may need to register
or obtain permits/licenses from other agencies. Some common examples include:
- Food and Drug Administra=on (FDA) for food-related businesses
- Na=onal Food Authority (NFA) for businesses involving rice and grains
- Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC) for licensed professions
- Securi=es and Exchange Commission (SEC) for specific types of businesses
12. Ongoing Compliance: Once your single proprietor business is registered, ensure ongoing compliance
with tax obliga=ons, business permits, and other regulatory requirements. Keep proper books of accounts,
file regular tax returns, and renew permits/licenses as needed.
