 ` What scientific or technological uncertainties did you

attempt to overcome?

In 2020, the implications of the pandemic resulted in uncertainties in implementing new

technologies for emerging workplace needs. Because it created new demands or skills that
workers must acquire or update to cope with the OSHA workplace regulations, our company
studied the various shifts in preventing and reducing workplace contamination and mitigating
risks.
We have identified several challenges and the possible approach to address these challenges.
Lack of Knowledge
For instance, we have identified employees may lack knowledge about using the
software technology, cognitive skills for problem-solving and decision-making in crisis
management, social skills for communication and collaboration, emotional skills for
coping with stress and ambiguity, and metacognitive skills for self-regulation and lifelong
learning during a global health crisis.
Impact of Technology in the Workplace
As new technologies changed how work was performed and organized, especially
during the pandemic, certain technologies positively or negatively impacted work
characteristics, such as complexity, autonomy, meaningfulness, workload, role
expectations, and development opportunities. These effects vary depending on the type,
level, and context of technology use and adoption.
Complexity of Emerging Technological Trends
How Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) may increase the complexity
and mental work required by workers interacting with or supervising automated systems
or robots.
OSHA Compliance
How to comply with Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), employers must
furnish each worker, including the place of employment, to be free from recognized
hazards that will cause or are causing death or serious physical harm.
Data Security
We understood that our solution would need to comply with local laws and regulations
related to data privacy and security. This data security was critical given the sensitive
personal information and health data our software would manage. Our team worked
closely with legal experts to ensure our solution complies with relevant laws and
regulations.
 What work did you perform in the tax year to overcome the
scientific or technological uncertainties described in line 242?

The company studied and applied evidence-based methods and ways to use software and
technology to manage the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and back-to-work transition.
Social Distancing Policy
The company created Covid-19 risk mitigation software for desk booking scheduling
systems to enable offices to deploy a social distance policy by limiting the number of
employees in the office and measuring the distance between the employees.
Mask Detection
In addition, outside of the office, the company created safety policies to ensure
employees wore masks. The company create software which integrates with a camera
to detect if someone is wearing a mask and who is on the worksite.
This technology was designed to help enforce mask mandates in areas where they are
required. Many people may gather nearby in workplaces, schools, and public
transportation, making it beneficial. Mask Detection technology can also alert individuals
not wearing masks to put one on, reducing the risk of infection.

Thermal Scanning
To ensure that on-site employees had no ongoing infection, we've created a thermal
scanner to screen employees with elevated body temperature from entering the
premises.
Thermal detection was another technology developed in response to the COVID-19
pandemic. This technology uses thermal cameras with heat scanners to detect elevated
body temperatures, which can be an early indicator of infection with the virus. Using
thermal detection, employers can identify employees at risk of spreading the virus and
take appropriate measures to isolate them from others.

Contact Tracing
We created contact tracing e-forms software where in-office and remote workers can
indicate whether they've contracted the virus and have possibly exposed others on the
job. The Contact Tracing software allowed the managers, supervisors, and business
owners to discreetly manage the contagion and implement quarantine protocols for
possibly affected employees.

Centralized Management of COVID-19 Protocols in the Office

This technology has benefited employers, with many employees working in different locations,
allowing for centralized management of COVID-19 protocols.
We integrated Covid mitigation software with Mask Detection and Thermal Detection software to
create essential tools for businesses and organizations to maintain their employees' and
customers' health and safety.

Federal Laws and OSHA Compliance

From a legal standpoint, employers are responsible for providing a safe working environment for
their employees under various laws and regulations. The Occupational Safety and Health Act
(OSHA) mandates that employers provide a safe and healthy workplace for their employees in
Canada. The act requires employers to comply with occupational safety and health standards,
including controlling hazardous substances and preventing infectious diseases such as COVID-
19.

Failure to comply with these laws and regulations could result in legal liability and financial
penalties.

In the case of COVID-19, employers who fail to take reasonable measures to protect their
employees from the virus could face legal action from employees who contract the virus in the
workplace. This could result in significant financial costs for the employer, including medical
expenses, lost wages, and other damages.

What scientific or technological advancements did you achieve or attempted to achieve

as a result of work described in line 244?

COVID-19 Mitigation
Using software innovations and technologies such has helped organizations comply with their
legal obligations and ensure the safety of their employees and customers. These technologies
can help employers manage employee scheduling and workplace occupancy in real-time,
monitor employee health and compliance with safety guidelines, enforce mask mandates, and
detect elevated body temperatures, which can early indicate COVID-19 infection.

By implementing these technologies, employers demonstrated that they are taking reasonable
measures to protect their employees from COVID-19, which can help to reduce the risk of legal
liability and financial penalties. In addition, by providing a safe working environment, employers
can help to maintain employee morale and productivity and protect the health and safety of their
customers and the broader community.

Employers' legal obligations to provide a safe working environment for their employees require
them to take reasonable measures to prevent the spread of infectious diseases such as COVID-
19. Failure to do so could result in significant legal liability and financial penalties. Using
software innovations and technologies such as DeskFlex, WorkAware, mask detection, and
thermal detection can help employers comply with these legal obligations and ensure the safety
of their employees and customers.
In conclusion, the COVID-19 pandemic has presented numerous challenges to businesses and
organizations worldwide. However, developing software innovations such as DeskFlex and
WorkAware, equipped with mask detection and thermal scanning features, have provided
businesses with solutions to help them adapt to these challenges. These technologies have
allowed companies to operate safely and maintain social distancing and other safety measures.
As the world navigates the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it is clear that these technologies will
continue to be relevant and vital to ensure the safety of employees and customers in the
workplace.
We recognized the need for an integrated and comprehensive approach to implementing the
new OSHA Covid-19 regulations in the workplace. Our company studied how viruses spread
from contact to contact and developed a software solution to prevent this with additional
DeskFlex room scheduling software features. Among the features integrated were Social
Distancing, Mask Detection, thermal Scanning, Vaccine Management, and Contact Tracing
functions.
