CAUTION: THERE MUST BE A MINIMUM DISTANCE OF FOUR FASTENER SPACINGS BETWEEN THE
OUTER ROWS OF THE ADJACENT REPAIR.
CAUTION: THERE MUST BE A MINIMUM DISTANCE OF THREE FASTENER SPACINGS BETWEEN THE
OUTER ROW OF THE DOUBLER AND THE FIRST FASTENER ROW OF A LONGITUDINAL OR
CIRCUMFERENTIAL JOINT. IN CASE THIS DISTANCE CANNOT BE MAINTAINED, REFER TO
THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE RELEVANT SRM JOINT REPAIR SCHEME.
CAUTION: OBEY THE GIVEN INSPECTION INSTRUCTION REFERENCE WHICH LEADS TO THE APPLIC-
ABLE INSPECTION PROGRAM DEFINED IN THE STRUCTURAL REPAIR INSPECTIONS, IF NE-

CAUTION: REPAIRS IN AREAS AROUND STATIC PORTS, PITOT PROBES, TOTAL AIR TEMPERAT-
URE PROBES AND ANGLE OF ATTACK SENSORS HAVE TO COMPLY WITH AERODYNAMIC
SMOOTHNESS REQUIREMENTS GIVEN IN CHAPTER 53-00-11, ALLOWABLE DAMAGE.
A. General
This repair task is applicable for skin plates. For STA (FR) designation, refer to Chapter 53-00-00 -
Identification.
B. Area of Applicability
This repair task is applicable for damage to the skin where the skin thickness is between 1.2 mm
(0.047 in) and 2.2 mm (0.087 in).
This repair is effective from FR35 thru FR35.8.
C. Weight Variant Applicability
NOTE: This repair principle is applicable for all A321-100 WV listed in the SRM Introduction, since
Feb-17 revision.
This repair principle is applicable for all A321-200 WV listed in the SRM Introduction, since
Feb-17 revision.
D. Limits/Restrictions
NOTE: This repair between FR35 thru FR35.8 is permanent with related repetitive inspections. For
the applicable inspection instruction reference, refer to Figure 002.
E. Repair Category
This repair task is category B.
NOTE: For the detailed definition of repair categories, refer to Chapter 51-11-14.
F. Inspections
It is necessary to inspect this repair at defined intervals (Refer to TASK 53-21-11-205-031).

2. Repair Procedure
A. Limited Cutout - External Repair for Skin Thickness between 1.2 mm (0.047 in) and 2.2 mm (0.087 in)
- Skin at Frame (Principle 2)
(1). Repair Instructions (Refer to Figure 001)
(a) Mark the repair area, refer to Figure 001.
(b) Remove the existing fasteners in the repair area (Refer to Chapter 51-21-11).
(c) Cut-out the damaged skin area and deburr the edges of the cutout. For the cutout limits, refer
to Figure 001.
(d) Clean the edges of the cutout with cleaning agent (Material No. 08BBF1 or Material No.
08BAA9).
(e) Apply wash primer (Material No. 04CMA2) to the edges of the cutout (Refer to Chapter 51-
23-00).
(f) Apply polyurethane primer (Material No. 04EAC2) to the edges of the cutout (Refer to
Chapter 51-23-00).
(g) Make the repair parts (Item 1 and Item 2) (Refer to Figure Figure 001).
NOTE: Cut the doubler (Item 1) to oversize and pre-shape it to align the fuselage contour to
avoid stressing.
(h) Put the repair parts (Item 1 and Item 2) in position, transfer drill the existing fastener holes
and drill the additional holes, if necessary (Refer to Figure 001).
(i) Remove the repair parts (Item 1 and Item 2) from the repair area and deburr the fastener
holes.
(j) Cut the doubler (Item 1) to final dimension and deburr.
(k) Chamfer the doubler (Item 1) (Refer to Chapter 51-47-00).
(l) Clean the repair parts (Item 1 and Item 2) and the repair area with cleaning agent (Material
No. 08BBF1 or Material No. 08BAA9)
(m) Treat the repair parts (Item 1 and Item 2) with Chromic Acid Anodizing (CAA) (Refer to
Chapter 51-21-11).
(n) Apply polyurethane primer (Material No. 04EAC2) to the repair parts (Item 1 and Item 2)
(Refer to Chapter 51-23-00).
(o) Apply sealant (Material No. 06AAA1) to the faying surfaces of the repair parts (Item 1 and
Item 2) (Refer to Chapter 51-76-11).
(p) Fill existing countersinks in fuselage skin with countersunk repair washers if necessary
(Refer to Chapter 51-71-15).
(q) Put the repair parts (Item 1 and Item 2) in position and install the fasteners wet with sealant
(Material No. 06AAA1) (Refer to Chapter 51-42-11 and Chapter 51-76-11).
NOTE: Make sure that the installation procedure is completed, or at least one fastener is set
in every third rivet hole, during the curing time of the sealant (Refer to Chapter 51-42-
11 and Chapter 51-76-00).
(r) Seal the edges of the doubler (Item 1) with sealant (Material No. 06AAA1) (Refer to Chapter
51-76-11).
(s) Apply flexible polyurethane (Material No. 04QAB2) to the sealant bead (Refer to Chapter 51-
23-00).
(t) Apply polyurethane top coat, grey (Material No. 04JME4) to the internal surface of the repair
area (Refer to Chapter 51-23-00).
(u) Apply polyurethane finish paint (Material No. 04JAA3) to the external surface of the repair
area to align the surrounding structure (Refer to Chapter 51-23-00).
(v) Apply corrosion preventive compound, temporary (Material No. 12ABC1) or equivalent to the
repair area inside the lower shell area (Refer to Chapter 51-23-00).

(a) Mark the repair area, refer to Figure 001.
CAUTION: DURING DRILLING OPERATIONS, MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO NOT CAUSE
DAMAGE TO THE INTERNAL STRUCTURE OR COMPONENTS.
(b) Remove the existing fasteners in the repair area, refer to Chapter 51-42-11.
(c) Remove the stringer in the repair area, refer to Chapter 53-00-13 - Repair.
(d) Cut-out the damaged skin area and deburr the edges of the cutout. For the cutout limits, refer
to Figure 001.
(e) Clean the edges of the cutout with cleaning agent (Material No. 08BBF1 or Material No.
08BAA9).
(f) Apply wash primer to the edges of the cutout (Material No. 04CMA2), refer to Chapter 51-23-
00.
(g) Apply polyurethane primer (Material No. 04EAC2) to the edges of the cutout, refer to Chapter
51-23-00.
(h) Make the repair parts (Item 1 and item 2), refer to Figure 001.

(i) Put the repair parts (Item 1 and item 2) in position, transfer drill the existing fastener holes
and drill the additional holes, if necessary (Refer to Figure 001).

(k) Cut the doubler (Item 1) to final dimension and deburr.

(o) Apply sealant (Material No. 06AAA1) to the faying surfaces of the repair parts (Item 1 and
item 2), refer to Chapter 51-76-11.
(p) Put the repair parts (Item 1 and item 2) in position and install the fasteners wet with sealant
(Material No. 06AAA1), refer to Chapter 51-42-11 and Chapter 51-76-11.

B. Area of Applicability
This repair principle is applicable for damage caused by lightning strike and is effective as follows:
- From FR24 thru FR35, refer to Figure 001 for applicability zonings.
- From FR35 thru FR35.8, refer to Figure 002 for applicability zonings.
- Depending of modifications embodied on the aircraft, each zoning has to be considered and the
worst limitation has to be applied.
- For definition of excluded/limited areas and for excluded/limited areas with no dimension, refer to
Chapter 51-70-20.
C. Weight Variant Applicability
NOTE: This repair principle is applicable for all A321-100 WV listed in SRM Introduction.
This repair principle is applicable for all A321-200 WV listed in SRM Introduction.
D. Limits/Restrictions
This temporary repair must be replaced by a final repair within defined FLIGHT CYCLES/FLIGHT
HOURS. For repair life limitation:
- For FR24 thru FR35, refer to Figure 001.
- For FR35 thru FR35.8, refer to Figure 002.
For conversion into permanent repair refer to TASK 53-21-11-300-010, Figure skin plates lightning
strike - conversion of temporary repair into permanent.

Repair of burn marks on skin caused by lightning strike located at a distance ≥ 15 mm (0.59 in.)
from an existing fastener and for a skin thickness up to 3.2 mm (0.126 in.) - Refer to Figure 003

D. Limits/Restrictions
For burn marks on skin caused by lightning strikes: this allowable damage is only valid for skin
thickness up to 3.2 mm (0.126 in).
Repairs in areas around static ports, pitot probes, total air temperature probes and angle of attack
sensors have to comply with aerodynamic smoothness requirements given in Chapter 53-00-11,
Allowable Damage in relevant paragraph.

It is necessary to inspect this repair to slat 2 at defined intervals (refer to TASK 57-40-00-205-035).

2. Repair Procedure
A. Slats 1 thru 5 - Nose Area Top Skin - Dent Repair
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU APPLY CHROMIC ACID ANODIZING (CAA) AND CHEM-
ICAL CONVERSION COATING. THE CHEMICALS USED ARE POISONOUS AND
CAN CAUSE INJURY. SEE THE MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEETS.
CAUTION: DURING DRILLING OPERATIONS, MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO NOT CAUSE DAM-
AGE TO THE INTERNAL STRUCTURE OR COMPONENTS.
(1). Do a damage evaluation before you repair the structure (refer to Chapter 51-11-00).
(2). Carefully drill out the rivets from positions which are to be utilized (refer to Chapter 51-42-11).
(3). Mark off the damaged area noting the edge distance from the rivet centers.
(4). Remove the damaged area of skin and make sure the edges of the cut-out are smooth (refer to
Chapter 51-27-00).
NOTE: After the dent damage has been removed. The edges of the cut-out can be dressed flat,
provided that the requirements of Figure 001, Sheet 4 are complied with.
CAUTION: FOR SLATS 3 THRU 5, DO NOT DAMAGE THE PICCOLO TUBES WHEN YOU DO
THIS REPAIR.
(5). Refer to Figure 001 and make the repair parts (items 1 thru 4 and 6 inclusive) to size, to suit the
repair.
NOTE: For slat 1, make the skin insert (Item 3) 1.8 mm (0.071 in) thick and 2.0 mm (0.080 in)
thick after modification 22409.
NOTE: Item 6 is only required for slat 1 not applicable after modification 22409.
(6). Assemble the repair parts and transfer drill through from the existing holes (refer to Chapter 51-
44-11). Gripper pin the repair parts in position.
(7). Mark out the new fastener positions, noting the minimum edge distance, and the minimum
distance between the fasteners as specified in Figure 001.
(8). Drill all the new fastener holes, pilot size (refer to Chapter 51-44-11).
(9). Drill all the fastener holes, full size (refer to Chapter 51-44-11).
(10).Remove the repair parts and deburr all holes and sharp edges.
(11).Clean all repair parts and the repair area with Non Aqueous Cleaner (Material No. 08BAA9).
(12).Make sure all the repair parts and cut edges of existing parts and skin have the necessary
protection. For protection with low VOC, refer to step 2.A.(13). and for protection without low
VOC, refer to step 2.A.(14)..
(13).Protective treatment with low VOC:
(a) Apply unsealed CAA or Surface Pretreatment (Material No. 10ABC1) on the internal face
of skin insert (item 3) and on all faces of the remaining repair items and cut-out. Then apply
Primer Epoxy Paint (Material No. 04DAB2 product code 442500 or Material No. 04DAB2
product code 442400) (refer to Chapter 51-23-11).
(b) Apply unsealed CAA or Surface Pretreatment (Material No. 10ABD1) on the external face
of skin insert (Item 3). Then apply a layer of Adhesive Primer (Material No. 05WDB1) as an
extra option (refer to Chapter 51-23-11).
If Adhesive Primer (Material No. 05WDB1) that contains chromates is used and is yellow, for
a colorless finish, do the following:
1 Let the material warm to room temperature before the container is opened.
2 Stir the material fully to make sure that all the pigments have gone out of view.
3 Leave the material to settle for 30 to 35 minutes.
4 Remove the upper part of the liquid and put it into a different container. This is the
colorless Adhesive Primer (Material No. 05WDB1) that must be used. If the adhesive
primer is not for immediate use, store it in a refrigerator facility. At room temperature this
adhesive primer must be used within 120 hours (5 days). After this period the primer
must be discarded.
(c) In area where the slat skin surface is painted, apply Primer Epoxy Paint (Material No.
04DAB2 product code 442500 or Material No. 04DAB2 product code 442400) to the external
face of the skin insert (Item 3).
(14).Protective treatment without anti low VOC:
(a) Apply unsealed CAA or Surface Pretreatment (Material No. 10ABC1) on the internal face of
skin insert (Item 3) and on all faces of the remaining repair items and cut-out. Then apply
Primer Epoxy Paint (Material No. 04DAB2 product code 443400 or Material No. 04DAB2
product code 443000) (refer to Chapter 51-23-11).
(b) Apply unsealed CAA or Surface Pretreatment (Material No. 10ABD1) on the external face
of skin insert (Item 3). Then apply a layer of Adhesive Primer (Material No. 05WDB1) as
an extra option. For a colorless adhesive primer, refer to steps 2.A.(13).(b).1. thru 2.A.(13).
(b).4..
(c) In area where the slat skin surface is painted, apply Primer Epoxy Paint (Material No.
04DAB2 product code 443400 or Material No. 04DAB2 product code 443000) to the external
face of the skin insert (Item 3).
(15).Remove all swarf from the slat interior.
(16).Assemble the repair parts with Polysulfide Sealant (Material No. 06AAB1 or Material No. 06ABF1
product code 651200) or equivalent.
CAUTION: FOR SLATS 3 THRU 5, MAKE SURE THE ACCELERATION SLOTS IN THE UPPER
GIRDER ARE NOT BLOCKED WITH SEALANT.
(17).Wet install the fasteners (Item 5) with Polysulfide Sealant (Material No. 06AAA1 or Material No.
06AAC1 product code 643400) or equivalent (refer to Chapter 51-42-11).
(18).Fill the gap between the skin insert (Item 3) and the edge of the remaining skin with Polysulfide
Sealant (Material No. 06AAB1 or Material No. 06AAC1 product code 643400) or equivalent.
(19).Remove unwanted sealant.
(20).For a low VOC external paint finish, refer to step 2.A.(21). and without a low VOC external paint
finish, refer to step 2.A.(22)..
(21).Low VOC external paint finish:
(a) In area where the slat skin surface is painted, apply Primer Epoxy Paint (Material No.
04DBA3 or Material No. 04DBA3 product code 444000) and then Top Coat Polyurethane
(Material No. 04JBA3 or Material No. 04JBA3 product code 450300).
(22).Without low VOC external paint finish:
(a) In area where the slat skin surface is painted, apply Primer Polyurethane Paint (Material No.
04EAC2) and then Top Coat Polyurethane (Material No. 04JAA3) (refer to Chapter 51-23-
11).
(23).If Adhesive Primer (Material No. 05WDB1) has not been used, apply a thin layer of Varnish
Polyurethane (Material No. 04SBA3) to the external repair area.

A. Zone 12 - External Bonded Metallic Doubler and Core Repair
(1). Preparation of the damaged structure
(a) Remove the surface finish from the repair area.
(b) Put some Adhesive Film Tape (Material No. 05RDA1) around the outer edge of the overlap
area. This will help you to remove unwanted adhesive from the repair area.
(c) Cut the damaged skin along the cut line until the skin and damaged honeycomb core
material can be removed, refer to Figure 001.
(d) Make sure that all edges of the cutout are smooth.
(e) Abrade the mating surface of skin lightly with Abrasive grade 280 - 400 to obtain a sufficiently
rough surface and retain part of the adhesive bond primer (greenish color). Prevent damage
on the protected surface (CAA layer (greyish)).
(f) Remove the waste from the repair area with a vacuum cleaner.
(g) Clean the repair area with Non Aqueous Cleaner (Material No. 08BBF1).
(h) Protect exposed CAA-layer with Adhesive Primer (Material No. 05WDB1), refer to TASK 51-
77-13-911-013, Paragraph 2.A.(2)(b). Treat and protect exposed bare area with Adhesive
Primer (Material No. 05WDB1), refer to TASK 51-77-13-911-013, Paragraph 2.A.(2)(c) or
2.A.(2)(d) or 2.A.(2)(e).
NOTE: The procedure in TASK 51-77-13-911-013, Paragraph 2.A. (2)(b) can be used as al-
ternative for small areas.

(3). Repair procedure (Hot Bonding Repair)
(a) Prepare the honeycomb core plug (Item 2), refer to TASK 51-77-11-911-014.
(b) Apply Foaming Adhesive Film (Material No. 13RAC1, use Product Code: 766400 (FM 41)) or
Product Code: 766100 (3M Scotch-Weld AF 3024-50)) to all surfaces of the honeycomb core
and install the honeycomb core into the repair area.
(c) Let the adhesive cure under heat and pressure. Apply pressure by using a vacuum bag, refer
to TASK 51-77-11-911-022.
(d) After curing, smooth the surface with Abrasive grade 280 - 400.
(e) Remove all unwanted material with a vacuum cleaner.
(f) Clean the repair area with Non Aqueous Cleaner (Material No. 08BBF1).
(g) Cut the Adhesive Film (Material No. 13QDB9, use only Product Code: 764700 (EA 9628 NW
06) or use Product Code: 764800 (FM73 M-06) or use Product Code: 764900 (3M Scotch-
Weld AF 163-2K-06)) to the correct dimensions.
(h) Lay-up the Adhesive Film (Material No. 13QDB9, use only Product Code: 764700 (EA 9628
NW 06) or use Product Code: 764800 (FM73 M-06) or use Product Code: 764900 (3M
Scotch-Weld AF 163-2K-06)) on the repair area, refer to TASK 51-77-11-911-007. Remove
any wrinkles or air bubbles with a roller or similar device.
(i) Position the doubler in the correct position.
(j) Let the adhesive cure under heat and pressure. Apply pressure by using a vacuum bag, refer
to TASK 51-77-11-911-022.
(4). In case of damage at the edge area prepare the rear closure, refer to Figure 001.
(5). Seal all open edges with Polysulfide Sealant (Material No. 06AAC1 or Material No. 06AAA1),
refer to Figure 001.
(6). Do an inspection of the repair.
(7). Restore the surface protection, refer to Chapter 51-75-12.
