2 CABLE TRAY INSTALLATION

 Prior to starting the installation check the work area to ensure that the area is a safe
working area and that enough manufacturer’s materials are available at site.
 Prior to installation, confirm that the materials used were approved.
 Prior to installation, confirm that the shop drawings were approved.
 Prior to start any installation of Cable Trays, coordination will be carried out with other
services.
 Mark paths for cable trays from the SMDB & METERING PANELS to the designated as
per the approved shop drawings before fixing any item.
 All cable trays shall be equipped with sides of adequate dimensions. All fittings, bends,
tees, employed shall be of substantial sections and of the same quality as the tray itself.
 Cable trays shall be installed as complete systems with bends and other accessories.
Each run of cable tray shall be completed before the installation of cables.
 Each run of the cable tray will be aligned, leveled, securely fastened to ceiling/walls.
 Adequate supports shall be provided to prevent stress on cables where they enter or leave
the tray. Where cable tray extends transversely through partitions and walls additional
protection in the form of non-combustible covers shall be used.
 Use 10mm GI threaded rod for the cable tray below 300mm and 12mm rod for above
300mm.
 Fix the UNIFIX (10mm/12mm) on the ceiling slab/ wall where ever required for install the
GI Threaded rod on Ceiling Slab .After hanging the threaded rod install the supporting GI
Slotted C Channels (41 x 41 x 2 mm ) by using 10mm/12 mm GI Nut &Washers. Upon
this channels install the appropriate cable trays.
 Sufficient space shall be provided and maintained around cable trays to permit adequate
access for installing and maintaining the cables.
 The number of single/multi core cables that may be installed in a ventilated or solid bottom
cable tray shall be as per the national regulations.
 Earth link straps will be installed on cable trays between the lengths and where required
to ensure effective electrical continuity irrespective of whether a separate protective earth
conductor is required or not.
 Provide fire stopping under provisions of relevant Section to sustain ratings when
passing cable tray through fire-rated element.
7.3 CABLE TRUNKING INSTALLATION
 Prior to starting the installation check the work area to ensure that the area is a safe
working area and that enough manufacturer’s materials are available at site.
 Prior to installation, confirm that the materials used were approved.
 Prior to installation, confirm that the shop drawings were approved.
 Cable trunking may be employed at special locations where it is difficult to install conduits.
 Separate Trunking system is employed for different powers and communication cable.
 Mark paths for trunking system were ever required.
 Fix the Supporting GI Threaded rods(8mm/10mm/12 mm) on the ceiling by fixing the UNifix
matching with rod size on the ceiling. Take the length of required GI Threaded rod length
as per the Coordination & False ceiling drawings.
 After Hanging the proper GI threaded rods fix the supporting GI slotted C channels(21x
21mm).Fix abobe this supporting c channel fix the GI trunkings.
 Where ever applicable for fix the GI Trunking on direct wall, mark on the wall for fixing the
screws. Then make proper hammering the hole by drill machine and fix the screw fisher
plugs on it. Then place the trunking on the same marking hole and affix by Self Tapping
screws.Trunkings are jointing by suitable Fish plates/ Jointers.
 Cable ties will be used at intervals for all wires of the same circuit reference.
 Marking ties with circuit reference number will be used at where required.
 Marking should be done before cutting and bending to achieve the desired shape and
angle. Grind all sharp edges before lock fittings to its required shape
 Provide fire stopping under provisions of relevant Section to sustain ratings when
passing Cable tray through fire-rated elements.
