Journeys from The Start

___
By Amaya Fox

My hands were covered with red and the knife I used was submerged in it. Everyone was
looking at me like I'm crazy. ‘’What did I just do?’’ I say out loud as I'm shaking and looking at
my hands. I ran to the bathroom to wash my hands. All I was trying to do was make a shade of
pink for the water that was around the Prehistoric Green Sturgeon I painted on a piece of wood
that was about 4” x 8”.

The mural with the sturgeon on it was about a place I went camping with my class, Anza
Borrego State Park. Our class went there because we are doing a project on epic journeys. We
stayed there for two days and one night. The mural told two different stories: when our class
was there and the six million years of Anza Borrego’s history before we were there.
I learned a lot about Anza Borrego because of the mural. I did a lot of research to find an image
to paint on the mural. I researched fish that lived in the colorado river. Thats where i came
across the sturgeon. The research I did on the sturgeon led me to learn that this thing has
been around for 200 million years and is still alive and swimming in the colorado river today. It
weighs as much as 300 pounds and lives up to 150 years! I just thought, “Thats a big fish!
Imagine seeing that in person.”
