Interpretation

This shows the participants answer to a survey for difficulties of speaking in


English, which they fill out a questionnaire in their classroom. It can be seen that all over
the section of those surveyed participants.
In the number 1 of 161 selected students, 52% answer Sometimes, 24% answer
Often, 17% answer Always, 7% answer Rarely, and 1% answer Never when they speak
English in the reporting.

In the number 2 of 161 selected students, 47% answer Sometimes, 28% answer
Often, 13% answer Rarely, 8% answer Always and 1% answer Never when they speak
English during recitation.

In the number 3 of 161 selected students, 33% answer Always, 31% answer
Sometimes, 26% answer Often, 7% answer Rarely, and 0% answer Never when they
understand English language during class discussion.

In the number 4 of 161 selected students, 34% answer sometimes, 20% answer
Often, 20% answer Rarely, 17% answer Always, and 4% answer Never when they feel
better when someone watching them speaking English language.

In the number 5 of 161 selected students, 43% answer Sometimes, 20% answer
Often, 20% answer Rarely, 11%answer Always, 3% answer Never when they feel
good/better speak English during class.

In the number 6 of 161 selected students, 43% answer Sometimes, 25% answer
Rarely, 17% answer Often, 7% answer Always, and 5% answer Never when they find
difficult to speak grammatically in English during speaking in learning activities.

In the number 7 of 161 selected students, 37% answer Sometimes, 20% answer
Always, 18% answer Often, 13% answer Rarely, and 10% answer Never when they feel
shy to speak English with other friend.
In the number 8 of 161 selected students, 40% answer Sometimes, 17% answer
Never, 16% answer Rarely, 13% answer Rarely, and 9% answer Always when they be
worry if their classmates speak English better than them.

and excited to learn speaking material by the time speak English is started.

want to improve my speaking ability
In conclusion, the factors causing the speaking problems are lack of general
knowledge, lack of speaking practice, fear of mistake, lack of words usage and
grammar practice, low motivation, low participation, reading laziness, shyness, less
dictionary usage, nervousness, fear of criticism, and unfamiliar words pronunciation.
Students' speaking performance could be affected by factors that come from performance conditions
(time pressure, planning, standard of performance and amount of support), affective factors (such as
motivation, confidence, and anxiety), listening ability, topical knowledge and feedback during
speaking activities. Most of the students faced common grammatical errors when speaking. Students
tend to make mistakes in tenses, active and passive, and vocabulary. Another reason why students
have difficulty conversing in english in class is their shyness, feelings of shyness when speaking in
English.
