“Litany of the Supreme Succour” [hizbul ghawthul a’zam] is one of the brief and frequently
recited litanies of Sayyidina sh Shaikh ‘Abdul Qadir al-Jilani (may Allah be well pleased with
him).

Litany of the Supreme Succour

By the cardinal pole & succour of the ardent lovers, our master & guide,
Muḥyi d-Dīn ‘Abd al-Qādir al-Jīlanī

In the name of Allah, the Universally Merciful, the Singularly Compassionate

O Allah, loosen this knot and cause this hardship to ease; let me encounter the best of good
fortune and guard me against the worst of destiny; provide me with the best of what is
sought and protect me from the worst of the final upheaval.

“O Allah” is my plea, my need; my equipment is my neediness; my means [wasilati] is the

cessation of my deceitfulness; my capital is the non-existence of my cunning; my interces-
sor is my tears; and my treasure is my incapacity.

My Lord, a drop from the oceans of Your Generosity will enrich me; an atom from the cur-
rent of Your Pardon will suffice me; so have mercy on me, grant me provision, guide me,
give me well-being, pardon me, forgive me, fulfil my need, disperse my sorrow, cheer my
concern, and remove my anxiety. By Your Universal Mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful.

O Allah, loosen this knot, and cause this hardship to cease,

Allahumma hulla hadhi-hil-uqdata, wa azil hadhi-hil-usrata

،‫ْغ ٰلّ ُه ه ُح هل ٰى ِذ ِه ْغ ُْع ْق ْد ْة ْوْ ِز ْل ٰى ِذ ِه ْغ ُْع ْس ْرْة‬

and let me encounter the best of good fortune,
and guard me against the worst of my destiny,
wa laqqi-ni husnal-maisuri wa-qi-ni su'al-maqduri

،‫ِن ُس ْث ْء ْغ ْْم ْق ُد ْوِر‬ ِْ ‫ْوغِّْق‬
ُ ‫ِن ُح ْس ْن ْغ ْْم ْي‬
and provide me with the best of what is sought,
and protect me from the worst of the final upheaval,
warzuq-ni husnat-talabi, wakfi-ni su'al-munqalab

ِ ْ‫ب ْوْ ْك ِف ِِن ُس ْث ْء ْغ ُْم ْنـ ْقل‬

،‫ب‬ ِ ْ‫ْو ْْرُزقْ ِِن ُح ْس ْن ْغطهل‬

O Allah is my plea, and my equipment is my neediness,
Allahumma hujjati wa 'uddati faqati

ِْ ْ‫ ْو ُم هدِِتْ فْاق‬،‫ِت‬

wa ra'su mali adamuh-tiyali

and my intercessor is my tears, and my treasure is my incapacity,
wa shafi'i dumu'i, wa kanzi 'ajzi
My God, drop from the oceans of Your Generosity will enrich us,
ilahi qatratun min bi-hari judi-ka tughni-ni

ِْ ‫ِْ ٰٰلِ ْي قْط ْْرةٌ ِم ْن ِِبْا ِر ُج ْثِد ْك تُـ ْونِْي‬

،‫ِن‬
and an atom from the current of Your Pardon will suffice me
wa dharratun min tayyari 'afwi-ka takfi-ni

ِْ ‫ْو ْذ هرةٌ ِم ْن تْـيها ِر ْم ْف ِث ْك تْكـِْف ْي‬

،‫ِن‬
so grant me provision and well-being, and pardon me,
farzuq-ni wa 'afi-ni wafu 'an-ni

ّْ ِ ‫ف ْم‬
،‫ِن‬ ِْ ِ‫ ْو ْماف‬،‫ِن‬
ُ ‫ ْوْ ْم‬،‫ِن‬ ْ ِ ْ‫فارُزق‬
ْ
and forgive me, and satisfy my need, and blow away my sorrow and cheer my concern, and
remove my anxiety,
waghfir-li waqdi hajati, wa naffis kurbati wa farrij hammi, wakshif ghammi

،‫ف غْ ِّم ْي‬ ِْ ْ‫س ُك ْرب‬
