So, under yourself you would have commanded around 40 troops at the peak. Mainly ground based,
skirmishers and scouting parties to engage with enemy first.
You would have been one of a few original 3 rd lieutenants in control of a set force of skirmishers.
The hierarchy of control over troops was lieutenant to 2 nd lieutenant to 3rd lieutenant to private.
Captains were above these as well as the leaders of the fort in the form of the quartermaster etc.
Under 3rd lieutenants approx. 40 privates, ground-based rank and file, scouting etc.
Under captains, bulk overview of forces, maybe 60 or so per. But could go lower for specialist forces
i.e. trappers etc.
Therefore approx. there had to have been at least 500 ish bodies wandering around at the red forts
peak, out on patrol split across several forts right the way across the border. So about 200 ish of
them would have been stationed at the red fort itself.
Yes! Well, sort of. Here is the foreground map, the outside bit before the Badlands, and I am in the
process of making a better internal map for you.
Rho’s Questions – Answered (Also fleshes out red fort area)
How is food transported into the fort? Would Os’karr remember such a thing?
Food is generally transported through the main entrance and is stored in the old farmhouses or
warehouses to the east of the fort, near to where the internal farmland is located. You would be
unsure on shipments in and out, but you have seen ware travel to Dron Brizzier through the main
entrance into the Badlands (authorised by Flik for his ‘workers’).
There is some farmland located within the Red Fort Training Grounds, however this is for reserve
supplies and does not produce enough for the occupants. Therefore, the fort works with partnership
with the local farms to assist in the transportation and sale of goods. They, as compensation, offered
a form of protection in the past but from turning inwards (as discussed with the Lee’s) they weren’t
offering as much support as of late. Hence why you were asked to deal with bandits at the Jasenika
Ruins.
Attacks were varied, often coming randomly or with some sort of key indication, common sights
were after a dust storm or a light in the distance. Therefore, there was always usually a light patrol
on duty to monitor these activities – followed by a horn and a call to prepare and man the bastions
should enemies be spotted closer.
However, due to dust clouds often caused by travelling raiders, it was common for light scouting
patrols to be prepared and sent out before the raiders made contact in order to cut them off.
Therefore, when you were sent out initially, you would have thought it was a similar situation but
then who you were fighting it was the ambush.
Does the area around the fort have a geographical name other than 'the red fort'?
Yes, most referred to as the Red Fort Region, due to having their fort in that location, as well as the
pumphouse and troops. But it is known as the Badlands-Midland boundary. Or just the boundary. To
some, the Continent Aernas just stops at the border to the Badlands due to how ‘inhospitable’ it is,
but often sailors from Brunthas or Kelzar with note that it isn’t due to trade with Dunemas, and so
they often call it the boundary.
