PAST VERB TO BE
Subject + was / were + complement.
He was an engineer.

We use the Past of the Verb to be for past states and situations.

PAST SIMPLE
Structure:
Subject + verb in simple past + complement.
He played the guitar last night.
Subject + aux did + not (didn´t ) + verb base form + complement.
He didn´t play the guitar last night.
Aux did + subject + verb in base form + complement +?
Did he play guitar last night?
We use the Simple Past to express the idea that an action started and finished at a
specific time in the past.
