Layout and Installation Recommendations for Hose Connections to the Supply System
(Original version)
Rotary joints are precision elements and not ordinary fittings. They must be handled with corresponding
care and must be protected - same as the whole piping system - from dirt and impurities.
Therefore we strongly recommend to rinse carefully the complete system before installation of joints.
- Joints with mechanical floating seals have very low friction, requiring normally no torque restraints
other than the flexible hose connections.
- Friction of joints with pressure activated radial or spherical seals is relatively high and changes with
varying line pressure. Consequently additional mechanical torque restraints are required here for
protection of the flexible hoses. These restraints however must allow the housing of the joints to move
freely at all times and in all directions for compensation of any eccentricities, wear and/or misalignments.
- Never use rigid piping or rigid torque restraints.
- The flexible hoses must be long enough, so that they will never - with or without pressure - become
taut or stiff, exerting thereby force loads on the housing. Any axial and/or radial loads must be avoided.
- All connections of TURIAN Joints have - unless specified differently by the customer - parallel threads
with corresponding surfaces for flat sealing. If it becomes necessary for certain elements in the supply
line system to seal inside the threads, then seal band (Teflon) or a liquid sealant (e.g. Loctite) should be
used, however sparingly.
- Attention: Do not use hemp for the installation of joints, hoses and/or supply line systems.
Step sequence for joint installation:
- The first installation step shall always be the connection of flexible hoses to the housing of the joint by
use of a bench vice. Caution: never clamp the housing to tight in the area of bearings.
- The steps to follow are: connection of rotors to the shaft - do not forget the flat gasket - followed by
tension-free connection of hose ends to the supply system in a slight bend (! = 30° - 50°), see below.
- Finally, and only if required, installation of torque restraint, but with sufficient play, allowing free
movement of the housing at all times and in all directions.
