Activity 2.1
1. What do you observe in their artwork?

Straight lines, a smooth paint surface, the

depiction of light, minimum use of color, and the
clear, crisp definition of forms are all features of
Neoclassical painting. We can also see that the
majority of the paintings emphasize symmetry,
balance, and simplicity. Almost all of the paintings
portray stories of patriotism, sacrifice, heroism,
and human rights with tremendous emotion.
Meanwhile, in Romanticism artworks, there is a
greater emphasis on the individual's expression of
emotion and imagination, a departure from
classicism's attitudes and forms, and a rebellion
against established social views.
 WHICH ARTWORK DO YOU
LIKE BETTER AND WHY?
I like the Romanticism artwork better than the Neoclassical artworks
since the Romantic period focuses mainly on expressing passions
and showing what you believe in through artwork. With this, I will
have more chances to make paintings freely. It also has many
themes that are influenced so information and works about it can
spread faster.
What are the visible
Neoclassic or Romantic
characteristics of the
artworks?
The major contrast between neoclassicism
and romanticism is that neoclassicism
emphasizes objectivity, logic, and intelligence
whereas romanticism emphasizes emotion.
Romanticism, on the other hand, places a
premium on human creation, nature, and
feelings. The romanticism movement
influenced a wide range of topics, genres,
and ideas.

LOOK AT ME!
PSYCHE REVIVED NEOCLASSICAL
BY CUPID'S KISS
This marble sculpture depicts two
angels, Psyche and Cupid, who are
in love. The sculpting of the marble
evokes a profound sense of love.
Because of the attention to detail,
the way the lighting shines on the
sculpture, the little features like the
bones and muscles of the angels
are well highlighted.
 The Death of
NEOCLASSICAL Marat
The Death of the Marat is a
beautifully balanced composition;
in the foreground, Marat and his
bathtub form a horizontal plane
that contrasts with the scene's
austere backdrop.
Landscape with a Plowman
(Romantic)
This painting has a well-balanced color
palette. We may state that the colors mixed
beautifully with the atmosphere that the
picture portrays from the sky to the soil.
Different brush strokes were employed to
emphasize the textures of the grass, the soil,
the tree, and the sky in terms of textures. This
gives the painting a nice visual.
