Phase 2-Chassis Assembly

Interconnections (Wiring)
• For the next phase we are going
to focus on the chassis wiring.
• Use the ‘07-2B-Interconnect’
diagram for details.
• We will be wiring everything
shown on the right except for S1.
• Ensure the quick connect center-post is oriented towards the top side of the chassis.
• Store the fuse holder cap in your parts kit.
• Use super special custom fuse holder wrench (part# 31415) to tighten the plastic nut.
• Take care not to overtighten to avoid damage.
• You are building a linear power supply
• They work by having a variable shunt regulate the
output Voltage.
• If you want to draw an Amp then there will be a lot of
heat generated.
• The regulators are in TO-220 packages.
• The metal tab must be bolted to a heat-sink.
• We will use the aluminum chassis for our heat-sink.
• The metal tab is electrically connected to the middle pin!
• If we bolt all three regulators to the same piece of
aluminum then all three center pins will be connected!
• We must include a mica insulator between the metal tab
of the regulator and the aluminum chassis.
• We must provide an efficient ‘path’ for
the heat to move from the regulator to
the ambient air so that the heat can be
properly dissipated.
• Every layer and every junction should be
considered when designing heat-sinks.
