1. What are the underlying theories/concepts you can notice in the video?

I believe the underlying theories or concepts in the video are about obsession with fantasizing idols and
performers, as seen in the video where there is that one fan girl who finally had her fantasies come to
reality by spending the night with the guy she idolizes. It never seemed to become an ordinary meet up
with her idol, though, but an eye opener as to how obsession and over fantasizing could become worse
as reality shocked her that her childish fantasies had become worse. I think she took an action that
might have endangered her in order to fulfill her fangirl dreams.

2. In the concept of semiotics and critical theories related to popular culture, answer the
following:
 What do you think is the genre of the trailer?

As I have watched the movie trailer, for me the genre is more of a Young Adult Fiction. It is because the
Movie trailer is about a teen ager who did everything just to fulfill her desires as fan girl of an idol. From
the title itself, Fan girl, it is a representation of mere representation of never meet your so called heroes.
Like in today’s generation, kids seemed to become obsessed the people they patronize which is never a
good thing. It tells us that idolizing beyond limits especially if you are a minor could go either ways, in a
bad or good way.

 What are the signs embedded in the trailer that you can relate to the popular culture in the
Philippines?

Being naive, due to all the things we see in TV and media, many young people believe that a person is
into you because he kissed you, had an affair with you, or was just into you because of some quote you
saw on a movie/talk show/on Twitter that made you infatuated. This is one possible sign in relation to
the Philippine pop culture, especially among teenagers who frequently find it pleasing to adore
actors/actresses One indicator that we can identify to is obsession and blind fanaticism with idols,
especially in this day and age when there are stars and actresses who are so adored that people will do
anything to meet them or get their idol's autograph. exposure to negative influences or activities, such
as in the scenes where Paulo instructs Jane to smoke and drink beer despite the fact that she is a minor.
Jane continues to drink and smoke despite having claimed to be 16 while lying about not being a child.
 What do you think are the director's elements added, deleted, or substituted in the film in
contrast to real-life situations?

The fact that it is a movie about fan culture and celebrity life makes it more grounded in reality, which
really exist. I think the director's additional elements were lighting choices that were suited for the
scenario and helped to create a specific mood. The filmmaker made the scenes and the movie more
genuine by including explicit language that had not been edited or filtered in the narrative. She also
substituted the scenes by delving deeper to topics that are harsh, such as revealing what is the genuine
meaning of addiction and blind love, instead of focusing on the superficial aspect of what fan girls or fan
boys are like.
