Objective: Be able to determine different social injustices shown in the movie, episode

or other visuals that is given.

Instructions:
Enumerate the social injustices you find and take a screenshot of the scene that
showed this social injustice.
Explain each one.

Upon watching the clip, I have observed some injustices seen in the series “Modern
Family” and these are:
FORCED CHILD LABOR

For me, this is somewhat considered as Forced Child Labor. Why? Because her
mother wants her to just learn how to stick with things, she thinks that her daughter’s
current job is good for her. And as you can see, her daughter wanted to explore and
grow that’s why she is initiating to look for a job where she finds happiness, comfort,
and development as a productive adult.
AGEISM
This is Ageism. Why? For me, the boy expected that the old man would be wearing
some fancy or stylish or anything presentable that acquires his age and their class. The
way he also talks to the old man is not quite respectful. There should be some gap, this
encourages a disrespectful way of talking to adults in some conservative countries like
the Philippines. For me, this shouldn’t be normalized.
STEREOTYPING
These scenes are considered Stereotyping, GENDER STEREOTYPING to be specific.
Because by portraying the character of Phil Dunphy, as the father who is portrayed as
somewhat clueless and less competent compared to his wife, Claire. The mother is a
responsible and organized parent, while her husband Phil is portrayed as more carefree
and less competent when it comes to household tasks. These portrayals can reinforce
traditional gender roles and expectations. Lastly, a Latina woman who portrays as a
strong and independent woman. While it is intended for comedic purposes, it can
reinforce traditional gender roles and perpetuate stereotypes.
This is still STEREOTYPING, because of his bad experiences in public school, he
closes his mind to feeling that he’s always out of place. For such reason, he prefers

more in private school and was so excited about entering into it.
Still a part of Gender Stereotypes. Why because her gay parents expected that
she should be “on to girly things” but the little girl still insists on the term that she is
“gay.” People should focus more on this because there are individuals, where at a
young age they feel that there is something wrong with them in terms of their gender or
sexuality.
HOMOPHOBIA
For me, these scenes are considered Homophobia. Why? Because the gay
couple portrays their struggles with societal prejudices and discrimination, emphasizing
the need for acceptance and equality and they don’t want their daughter to experience
such things. They are furious because at a little age, their daughter claims that she is
gay just like her parents without knowing what it does really means.
Racial and Ethnic Stereotypes: The show portrays diverse characters from different
ethnic backgrounds, including Jay's wife Gloria, who is from Colombia. While the show
often uses humor to address cultural differences, it also raises awareness about the
prevalence of racial and ethnic stereotypes in society.
