Business Correspondence – Assignment (15%)

Be sure to put your name, Student ID, and label the chosen scenario in your
assignment. This is an individual assignment.

Scenario A:
You are a marketing director at a large insurance company. (You can decide the
name.) Over the last ten years, you’ve noticed that your competitors have been,
one by one, switching to a more casual dress code for their sales teams. Your
company is one of the last using more traditional business formal, suits, ties,
blouses, etc. One month ago, you commissioned a survey of your customers to get
their feelings of your products and services.

 The majority of your customers are pleased with the products and services
your company offers.
 The majority of your customers are satisfied with your customer service.
 However! Nearly 72% of your customers indicated that they felt your
company’s manner of dress, “old-fashioned” and “stiff.” The section in the
survey on “friendliness” of your sales associates was not as high as you had
hoped either, and you believe that the formal dress code is at least partially
responsible.

Write a short report-style memo announcing the new, more casual dress code for
your sales associates. Include the following:
1. A summary at the beginning
2. The new dress code. You decide what it is! Be sure to include guidelines for
men, women, and non-binary/intersex.
3. A date for the switch.
4. The location on your company’s internal site for employees to comment on
the new code and suggest revisions.

Be creative! You can use as many of the backstory above. You can add new
elements if you like but do not change the scenario.

Instructions

Write a short report individually in proper memo format to all employees with the
elements listed above. Please start the report with a short summary as per the
discussion in class. (Refer to short report slide)
