This course was designed for students from various disciplines, but its core

concepts are rooted in electrical engineering and computer science.

Learners should have strong English language skills, an undergraduate-level study

of physics, and undergraduate-level study of trigonometry and ordinary
differential equations.

A basic understanding of electric circuits and networks is helpful. MIT’s

OpenCourseWare offers material related to its Circuits and Electronics course
here.

Materials

All material needed to pass the course will be made available, including sections
from the textbook upon which the course is based.

Assignments 2 and 3 will utilize MathWorks’ MATLAB programming platform. All

required files and access will be made available via MATLAB Online, via a special
free license for all edX learners (Audit and Verified). MATLAB staff will also be
available to answer questions via discussion boards during Assignments 2 and 3.
Please note that they are not available to answer content-specific questions.

If you are interested in learning more about MATLAB before Assignment 2, you
are welcome to get started with these resources:

● MATLAB Onramp
● Getting Started with MATLAB

Course Background, Motivation, and Contents

This course is motivated by the basic need to enhance electric energy service by
means of flexible data-enabled production, delivery and consumption. High
quality, low cost, clean electricity service is very important. The electric energy
system is one of the major critical infrastructures, and it comprises a huge part of
every country's economy. At the same time, it is one of the major sources of
carbon footprint. Given the advances in sensing, control and computing
