The Reformation - Group Discussion

Task 1 Reformation, also called Protestant Reformation, the religious revolution that
took place in German in the 16th century. Its greatest leader undoubtedly was Martin
Luther. There were 3 main causes that led to the Reformation. 1. Dissatisfaction with
practices of Catholic Churches 2. The Pope's interference in political matters. 3. The new
spirit of enquiry developed by the renaissance. Having far-reaching political, economic,
and social effects, the Reformation became the basis for the founding of Protestantism,
one of the three major branches of Christianity. Task 2 1. Was Luther's objections
rooted in theological convictions that were plainly taught in the Bible or was it just a
protest against the abuses of the church? Reformers belief was fundamentally rooted in
theological convictions that were ignored by churches. The most important of these was
the message that people were saved not by what they did, but by what they believed. It
was by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and not by any action on our part,
that our sins were paid for. Those who trusted in Christ had their sins covered by his
atoning sacrifice and they were admitted to heaven because of their faith in him. What
we cannot do for ourselves, he has done for us. This made any idea of purgatory
redundant. Human beings do not have to become perfect in order to inherit eternal life
as long as they trust in Christ. This is what theologians call “justification by faith alone”.
2. What were the impacts on politics after the Reformation? It led ultimately to the
growth of individual liberty and democracy. The reformers preached the equality of man
to follow his conscience and to attain salvation in his own way. This individual freedom
from a religious point of view had its political repercussions too and led to the growth of
democracy. 3. What did Martin Luther do in the Reformation? Image result for what did
martin luther king do in the reformation Martin Luther, a German teacher and a monk,

teachings starting in 1517.
