Welcome!

Moms Demand Action is part of Everytown for Gun Safety, the largest
gun violence prevention organization in America.

WHY GUN VIOLENCE PREVENTION

Mass shootings are horrific, frightening and the culmination of significant atrocities and loss of life in one
moment. At the same time, they don’t tell the full story of gun violence in our country. Gun violence claims
the lives of 110 people in America and wounds 200 more every single day. Gun violence is a complex issue
that impacts every community and at the same time disproportionately impacts communities that have been
racially marginalized and subject to a history of oppression and white supremacy. Gun violence is an
epidemic that tears the fabric of America and includes city/communtiy gun violence, domestic violence,
police violence and suicide by gun, which is often not discussed but accounts for nearly two-thirds of all gun
deaths.

WHAT WE DO
Moms Demand Action works strategically in a multifaceted approach to address gun violence through
federal and state legislative action, local government advocacy, partnership engagement, school safety,
public education and electoral action. Our volunteers develop strategic plans focused on building a diverse
movement of power to enact change at all levels with the single mission of preventing gun violence.

HOW WE WORK
Moms Demand Action volunteers are guided by core values around diversity, equity, inclusion, respect,
leadership, impact, sustainability, flexibility and adaptability, and a culture of feedback.

Moms Demand Action state chapters are organized by volunteer leadership teams that support coordinated
statewide work as well as local groups (often at the city or country level) working with volunteers to
advance efforts to change the culture and outcomes of gun violence. Leaders and their team members are
provided training and access to tools for effective grassroots organizing and management with an equity
lens. Trainings include everything from how to talk about gun safety to effective use of social media, how to
talk to legislators to how to recruit and re-engage volunteers, how to manage teams and delegate work to
how to implement best organizing and management principles, how to be effective in the press to how to
run for office, and more. State chapters are supported by Everytown for Gun Safety staff to guide strategy in
movement building and the various campaigns and efforts the chapter undertakes.
