LEARNING ACTIVITY 1
1. What is the concept of nationalism according to Emilio Jacinto?
Emilio Jacinto emphasizes the primacy of good over evil and the unity of the people in his
definition of nationalism. Nationalism is a political theory that prioritizes the well-being of
one's own country at the expense or exclusion of other nations. Since Emilio Jacinto was a
revolutionary leader motivated by the possibility of an independent Philippines governed by
Filipinos, his declarations of patriotism must be evaluated within the framework of the
revolutionary process. . It is unfortunate that not all of his works have been preserved.
Those who have survived provide a minor obstacle, though, due to translation errors. His
writings must have lost certain details in translation. The Revolutionaries This research
does not claim to provide a comprehensive analysis of Jacinto's position on nationalism.
Instead, it operates within the constraints of what is now available among his texts. We
review and analyze passages from these works in order to shed light on his concept of
nation and the ideological constructs that it generates. We have previously shown that
Jacinto adheres to a revolutionary and radical worldview. He believed he was living at a
time when exploitation and injustice were so severe that people were compelled to seek
freedom using means as ruthless and cruel as those of their dictatorship, but which were yet
justified by the desperate situations. Many, if not all, of his works contain explicit
declarations of nationalism that are important to the katipunan concept and refer to the
Propaganda Movement.
2. According to Jacinto, who were qualified to join the secret society?

When the rules and responsibilities were laid forth for the Filipino people by Emilio Jacinto,
they realized that the only way to save their country and better themselves was to exercise
discipline and do what they were instructed. Only in this way could they hope to make any
progress. After giving up their old ways of thinking, including giving up drugs and alcohol,
and starting to follow the laws that were imposed by the government, the Filipino people as
a whole began to develop, which led to the country's overall improvement. When a people,
who have become a nation through cultural evolution and a sense of oneness born of
common struggle and suffering, declare to the world that they recognize their natural right to
liberty and are willing to defend it with their blood, their lives, and their honor, that is the
moment that a nation is born into freedom. This is the moment that a nation is born into
freedom.
