Can different types of music increase or decrease

your heart rate?

Introduction
Music is an extremely popular thing, and almost everyone listens to it. Not
everyone likes one genre of music so I am curious how different types of
music affect your heart rate.

I would like to know how music affects your heart rate at different times of
the day. I will be using a fitbit to track my heart rate. I would like to know
what music is best when you're tired, when you're working out, ect. Things
like medication, running, walking, stress, body temperature, your weight,
caffeine, and drinking alcohol generally can all affect your heart rate in
different ways. The music genres I will be testing include country music,
rock, pop, indie, blues and rap.

My prediction is that a more fast paced upbeat song would increase your
heart rate rather than a slow placed sad song that would lower your heart
rate.

Instructions
In my experiment I will be running 3 different tests, 9am, noon, and 9pm.
There will be 100 people listening to the same 4 songs for each genre. The
people would sit down for 10 minutes before testing. After the 10 minutes is
over they would stay in their seats. They would listen to the music through
headphones (everyone would have the same headphones). The music will
be played at avg volume

The songs I will be using include the following:

-Country: Cowboy Hat, Tennesse Whisky, Chicken Fried, Down To The

Honky Tonk

-Blues: Red House, Crazy Blues, Pride And Joy, The Thrill Is Gone
-Rap: Mood, Hanging With Wolves, No Sleep, First Class

-Rock: Sweet Child O Mine, Hotel California, Stairway To Heaven, Jump

-Pop: Toxic, Hey Ya!, Good As Hell, Umbrella

-Indie: Take Me Out, Seven Nation Army, Sunny Day, New Gold

1)Before each testing each person will have to sit down for 10 minutes
2)Records there heart rate for 1 minute before testing
3)Record heart rate a ⅓ into the song
4)Record heart rate ⅔ into the song
5)Record heart rate when the song is over
6)Record heart rate 10 minutes after listening
7)Take average heart rate from the 3 people

(Realistically if I was actually testing there would be 100 or so people listening to more than 3
genres and more than 4 songs for each genre.)
