Bernina Sewing Service 5 Embroidery with double and triple needle Dawe and triple needles give very attrac- tive embroidery effects, both with matching colours and with gra- duated shades. How- ever they are more suit- able for fine embroidery work, either on clothing such as blouses, dres- ses, tops, etc. or articles in the home, for example curtains, lampshades, tablecloths and other things. General instructions Watch the stitch width! The table shows the maximum stitch width for each needle. (The triple needle is ‘made in only one Sze.) As far asthe stitch length goes, the general rules not to shot and to always test the stitch first. {The 1mm and 4 mm double needles are nt Iisted as they are not slab fo this type of embroidery work, They can only be used for straight stitch work. The sewing test will show which foot achieves the best results, Thread | Only embroidery thread should be used! [ Threading the machine Double needle @ Place the reels so that the threads are not rubbing against each other when sewing g.1). @ Lay one thread to the right and one thread to the lett of the tension disc (the right thread to the right, the left to the left) (Fig.2). @ When taking the threads to the needle, make sure that they do ‘not become twisted with each other but run smoothly from the take-up lever to the needles. © Guide the third thread behing the litle flange* (Fig. 5). “The following presser feet are particularly suitable for embroidery work with double and triple needle: Embroidery foot 030/or 147 Presser foot 000 (or very thin fabrics) Sewing fot 560, Model 930/831 on Pintucking foot 7 erooves _and 5 grooves ‘according to type of work and material. Make a sewing test! for red stitches Tor decorative stitches between pintucks, No.30 No. 50 (= damning thread) For triple needle only No. 50 Triple needie @ First position the two threads as for the double needie threa- ding them to the two outer needles. @ Wind the third thread on toa bobbin and place it under the left reel (Fig, 3). *See that the thread runs smoothly! @ Lay the third thread to the right of the tension disc (Fig. 4) and continue threading. Make a sewing test. Preparing @!{ necessary press the pieces (cut only approx. to size) the material @ Transfer guiding lines or drawing on to the material (with dress- maker's tracing paper—in white if possible). ‘© Pin paper on to the underside.
