THE STRUGGLES OF CAMP VICENTE LIM INTEGRATED

SCHOOL SENIOR HIGH STUDENTS IN SELECTING A

PROFESSION

Chapter 1

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

This chapter includes the introduction and background of the

study, the statement of the problem, conceptual and theoretical

framework, and the scope and limitations of the study.

Introduction

Choosing the right profession is a big part of our lives. Choosing a

career based on their passion will allow them to comfortably settle

into their career and excel while overcoming challenges with

minimum effort. If the profession they pick is something they love

and want, the students will not be lazy; thus will be more than

interested in every activity. Students think this will be their chance

to prove themselves and enjoy it. Some freshmen need help with

selecting a career path. So, this is the problem with selecting a

professional path: first, they do not have enough money to

continue their studies. Second, their parents pursued them to get

them to take a course their family wanted. Lastly, the effects of

disinclination on the choice of strand include poor performance

and dissatisfaction. In addition, students enrolled in the wrong

strand experienced a low level of involvement, could not

concentrate, and could not enjoy some of the subjects to the point

of quitting. This research would like to determine the struggles of

Camp Vicente Lim Integrated School senior high school students

in selecting a career path, and we want to know what adjustments

they make by choosing the right path. This research is essential

because the readers will know the importance of choosing the

right professional path and the profession. Researchers chose this

topic because of how exciting to discover people who take their

professional path and how hard they push themselves to get over

when people are struggling.

Background of the Study

Choosing a profession can be one of the most challenging

decisions that a person makes in their life. It is a decision that will

have a lasting impact on the rest of their life, and it is crucial to

take the time to consider all. The process of selecting a profession

is daunting and complicated for many students. Making a decision

that will affect a person's life for years to come is not a task to be

taken lightly. With so many options and such significant

consequences, it is no wonder that many students struggle with

this decision. The first struggle students face when selecting a

profession is determining the right career. Selecting a profession

can be difficult for students unsure of what they want to do with

their lives. They must consider their interests, skills, and potential

job opportunities in a given field. In addition to considering what

profession is right for them, students must also consider how their

decisions will affect their future. Will the job they choose to provide

them with a steady income? Will it lead to further opportunities?

Will it help them achieve their professional goals? These are all

questions that must be considered when selecting a profession.

Another struggle that students face is deciding which path to take.

Once students have narrowed their list of potential careers, they

must decide which one to pursue. They must weigh the pros and

cons of each option and decide based on their needs and goals.

Choosing a career path can be a complicated process, as each

career requires different levels of commitment and dedication.

Finally, students must also grapple with the reality of the job

market. Even if they have chosen a dynamic profession, they may

need more job opportunities. Fail of failure is one of the factors

affecting students' struggles in deciding their future profession

because the Philippines is one of the countries under the case of

low unemployment, affecting our socioeconomic stand. According

to Philippine News Agency (2023), The Philippine Statistics

Authority (PSA) on Thursday reported that the unemployment rate

in January 2023 rose to 4.8 percent from 4.3 percent the previous

month.
Statement of the Problem

This section depicts the challenges that Senior High students from

Camp Vicente Lim Integrated School face when selecting a

profession path. The study aims to identify the factors that

contribute to their struggles, explore the coping mechanism that

they use, and recommends strategies to help them make informed

career decisions. These questions: How do you, as a student, deal

with these difficulties in determining a career path? How does

pressure from your parents influence your decision about your

career? What themes emerged from the testimonies shared by

Senior High Students learners? Based on the consolidated results

and reflections, what program can be proposed on this study.

Conceptual Framework

S. Alvin Leung (2008) studies revealed that the main concern for

management students is their choices at critical points concluding

their career paths. The financial outcome, interest in the subject,

ease of subject and future opportunities are the factors that add

force to career choices. Other external or internal factors can

directly or indirectly influence students' choices; however, this

paper engenders a deep understanding of the above four factors,

which are strengthened by the literature. The conceptual

framework describes the main factors (extracted from the

literature) used for the relationship of the variables to the career

choice that will be investigated in the study.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

The limitations of senior high school students, it can be difficult for

them to choose a career route. Because of this, students choose

what they want and should be sure about their choices;

nevertheless, they only have a limited number of options because

once they choose a course, that is it for them. Senior high school

students at Camp Vicente Lim Integrated School are prepared to

choose the path they want to follow and have a job in the future;

nevertheless, to get the job, they will need to put much effort into

their studies. However, there is a limitation or issue with the

students, such as a lack of education; even if they have money,

they are still required to pass the track.
