The right front is the right side of chest. The left front is the left side of chest.

Choosing Size

The Moon Set Tee has around 4” [10 cm] of positive ease built into the pattern. So sizes XS (S) M (L) XL
(2XL) 3XL (4XL) 5XL correspond to a bust circumference of 32 (34) 37 (39) 42 (46½) 50 (54) 59" [81 (86)
94 (99) 106 (118) 127 (137) 150 cm] (the final size of garment will be an additional 4”[10 cm]). This means
that if you measure a 34" [86 cm] bust you will make size (2) with a finished bust circumference of 38" [96
cm]. This tee is meant to be cropped. If you would prefer a longer garment, you will require more yardage
than is listed on Page 1. Refer to Page 9 for additional details on final measurements.

Increases

Increases are worked so that they lean to the right (M1R) or to the left (M1L). Work the increases as
follows:

M1R - insert the left hand needle under the bar formed by the stitch you just knit and the stitch you're
about to knit from back to front and K normally (into the front of the stitch).

M1L - insert the left hand needle under the bar formed by the stitch you just knit and the stitch you're
about to knit from front to back and K TBL.

German Short Rows (video support on Page 8)

ds/make ds - Double stitch

With yarn in front, Sl the first st. Pull working yarn over top of right needle from front to back, rotating the
stitch so that the two legs of stitch stretch over the top of the needle and look like two stitches.

Back

You will shape the back of tee by using German Short Rows. You will work flat in stockinette st.

Loosely CO 117 (123) 133 (139) 149 (163) 175 (189) 205 sts on US 3 (3.25 mm)/32-40" circular needles
using the long tail cast-on method. Break yarn.

Starting at the end from which you just broke the yarn, slip the first 40 (42) 46 (48) 52 (58) 64 (70) 78 sts
from the left needle to the right needle. You will not knit these sts for the first row, but you will instead knit
them gradually in subsequent rows while utilizing German Short Rows to create a curved back foundation
for your tee.

Join with new yarn and P37 (39) 41 (43) 45 (47) 47 (49) 49 sts until 40 (42) 46 (48) 52 (58) 64 (70) 78 sts
remain, turn, make ds.

Next Row (RS) - K until 38 (40) 44 (46) 50 (56) 62 (68) 76 sts remain. Turn. Make ds.
Following Row (WS) - P until 38 (40) 44 (46) 50 (56) 62 (68) 76 sts remain, resolving ds from previous row
when you come to it. Turn. Make ds.

You will continue working German Short Rows, each time turning 2 sts after last turn. Meaning, work to
your last ds, resolve the ds by knitting (RS) or purling (WS) the ds as one st, work another 2 sts, and turn
as follows:

Row 1 (RS) - K to the ds, resolve by knitting ds, K2, turn, make ds.
Row 2 (WS) - P to the ds, resolve by purling ds, P2, turn, make ds.

Tip: If you’re having trouble keeping track of your ds, mark its place with a removable stitch marker.

Repeat Rows 1 and 2, 18 (19) 21 (22) 24 (27) 30 (33) 37 more times. At the last turn there will be 2
unworked sts remaining after the ds on both the left and right side of your work. The next row will be a RS
row.

The back now measures approx. 4 (4) 4½ (5) 5 (6) 6½ (7) 8" [10 (10) 11 (13) 13 (15) 16½ (18) 20 cm], as
measured from center back cast-on edge.

You will continue working back and forth in stockinette st across all back sts, resolving the final two ds as
you work, for 38 (38) 40 (44) 50 (56) 60 (64) 60 more rows, until back measures approx. 8 (8¼) 8¾ (9½)
10½ (11¾) 12¾ (14) 14¼" [20 (21) 22 (24) 27 (30) 32 (36) 36 cm], as measured from center back cast-on
edge. End by working a WS row.

You are now at RS. Break yarn and let sts rest on cable or scrap yarn.

Left Side of Collar (video support on Page 8 for Judy’s Magic CO)

Provisionally CO 16 sts using Judy's Magic CO (or long tail cast-on method if you do not mind a seam).
Place live sts (those on the opposite side of worked sts) on hold using scrap yarn. These sts will become
the right side of the collar and will be picked up and worked later.

Note: When 16 sts are cast on using Judy’s Magic CO, there will be 16 sts on each of the needles used.

Row 1 (RS) - K2, *P1, K1* repeat *-* across.

Row 2 (WS) - *P1, K1* repeat *-* until 2 sts remain. Sl 2 wyif.

Repeat Rows 1 and 2, 10 (10) 12 (13) 13 (14) 14 (15) 15 more times, for a total of 22 (22) 26 (28) 28 (30)
30 (32) 32 rows, ending with a WS row.

Do not break yarn.

Note: The left side of the collar and the right side of the collar will each be shorter than half of the center
back section of your tee. This is expected – the shorter length will ensure that your tee fits correctly against
the back of your neck and will not flare out.

Left Front (video support on Page 8 for picking up sts along left front and joining left side of collar
to left front)

Next Row (RS) - K2, *P1, K1* repeat *-* across to end of collar sts. Next, with RS of back piece facing and
CO sts on top, continue using working yarn from left collar to pick up 40 (42) 46 (48) 52 (58) 64 (70) 78 sts
along the left slanted edge, beginning at center back. Note: To maintain the stockinette and create a
seamless look, you will pick up and K in between the sts (i.e., you will pick up sts from in between the ꓥs).

center back

back left back right

Following Row (WS) - P across until 17 sts remain, P the next two sts together (this will be one picked up st
and one collar st), PM, *K1, P1* repeat *-* until 3 sts remain, K1, Sl 2 wyif. 55 (57) 61 (63) 67 (73) 79 (85)
93 sts.

Now you will work back and forth as follows:

Row 1 (RS) - K2, *P1, K1* repeat *-* until 1 st before marker, P1, SM, K across.
Row 2 (WS) - P across until marker, SM, *K1, P1* repeat *-* until 3 sts remain, K1, Sl 2 wyif.

Repeat Rows 1 and 2, 12 (12) 12 (12) 12 (12) 17 (17) 17 more times, for a total of 26 (26) 26 (26) 26 (26)
36 (36) 36 rows until left front measures approx. 3 (3) 3 (3) 3 (3) 4 (4) 4" [7 (7) 7 (7) 7 (7) 10 (10) 10 cm]
as measured from the picked up sts. You are now at RS. Note: Measurements and row counts are given
when shaping the v-neck edge. Please be sure to check both to ensure that your neck depth fits properly.
Tip: It may be easiest to measure the front from the WS, as the seam from which you picked up sts is
visible from that side.

Next work increases to shape the v-neck edge as follows:

Row 1 (RS) - K2, *P1, K1* repeat *-* until 1 st before marker, P1, SM, K2, M1L, K across. (1 st increased).
Row 2 (WS) - P across until marker, SM, *K1, P1* repeat *-* until 3 sts remain, K1, Sl 2 wyif.
Row 3 (RS) - K2, *P1, K1* repeat*-* until 1 st before marker, P1, SM, K across.
Row 4 (WS) - P across until marker, SM, *K1, P1* repeat *-* until 3 sts remain, K1, Sl 2 wyif.

Repeat Rows 1-4, 10 (11) 12 (13) 14 (15) 15 (16) 16 more times, for a total of 44 (48) 52 (56) 60 (64) 64
(68) 68 rows. 66 (69) 74 (77) 82 (89) 95 (102) 110 sts. Left Front measures approx. 7½ (8) 8½ (8½) 9
(9½) 10½ (11) 11” [19 (20) 22 (22) 23 (24) 27 (28) 28 cm] as measured from the picked up sts. You are
now at RS.

Break yarn and let sts rest on cable or scrap yarn while working Right Front.

Right Side of Collar (video support on Page 8)

Working on held 16 provisional cast-on sts with RS of collar facing, join with new yarn and work as
follows:

Row 1 (RS) - *K1, P1* repeat *-* until 2 sts remain, K2.
Row 2 (WS) - Sl 2 wyif, *K1, P1* repeat *-* across.

Repeat Rows 1 and 2, 10 (10) 12 (13) 13 (14) 14 (15) 15 more times, for a total of 22 (22) 26 (28) 28 (30)
30 (32) 32 rows, ending with a WS row.

Note: If you used the long tail cast-on method, pick up 16 sts with the RS of your work facing and using
the short end of your working yarn, work from right to left. Once all sts have been picked up, push sts to
the needle's opposite end and start work on the RS using the long end of your working yarn. You will then
begin at Row 1 above.

Break yarn and set aside while you pick up sts for Right Front.

Right Front (video support on Page 8 for picking up sts along right front and joining right side of
collar to right front)

With RS of back piece facing and CO sts on top, pick up 40 (42) 46 (48) 52 (58) 64 (70) 78 sts beginning
from right slanted edge. Note: To maintain the stockinette and create a seamless look, you will pick up
and K in between the sts (i.e., you will pick up sts from in between the ꓥs).

Now you will work back and forth as follows:

Row 1 (WS) - Sl 2 wyif, *K1, P1* repeat *-* until 1 st before marker, K1, SM, P across.
Row 2 (RS) - K across until marker, SM, *P1, K1* repeat *-* until 1 st remains, K1.

Repeat Rows 1 and 2, 12 (12) 12 (12) 12 (12) 17 (17) 17 more times, for a total of 26 (26) 26 (26) 26 (26)
36 (36) 36 rows, then work one more repeat of Row 1 only. Right front measures approx. 3 (3) 3 (3) 3 (3)
4 (4) 4" [7 (7) 7 (7) 7 (7) 10 (10) cm] as measured from the picked up sts. You are now at RS.

Repeat Rows 1-4, 10 (11) 12 (13) 14 (15) 15 (16) 16 more times, for a total of 44 (48) 52 (56) 60 (64) 64
(68) 68 rows. 66 (69) 74 (77) 82 (89) 95 (102) 110 sts. Right front measures approx. 7½ (8) 8½ (8½) 9
(9½) 10½ (11) 11” [19 (20) 22 (22) 23 (24) 27 (28) 28 cm] as measured from the picked up sts. You are
now at RS. Do not break yarn.

Joining Fronts

To form the v-neck of your tee, your collar stitches will now be knitted together so that the Right Front 15
sts will lay on top of Left Front 15 sts. The neckline opening will therefore be closed here, and the 30 collar
stitches will be reduced to 15. These 15 stitches will then become part of the stockinette body.

Using the working yarn currently attached to the Right Front and with RS of your work facing, K across
Right Front sts to marker, remove marker. Transfer held stitches of Left Front to a spare circular needle
and hold the collar stitches of the Left Front directly behind the collar stitches of the Right Front. *K the first
stitch on the needle held in front together with the first stitch on the needle held in back.* Repeat *-* 14
more times so that all collar stitches on both the front and the back needles have been worked. At this
point, there are no remaining stitches on the front needle and you are at the stitch marker on the back
needle. Remove marker and K across the remaining sts for the Left Front. All front sts are on the same
needle and the Left Front and the Right Front sections have been joined to form a single Front piece. 117
(123) 133 (139) 149 (163) 175 (189) 205 sts.
all content ©2021 Hailey Smedley 6
Continue to work back and forth in stockinette st for 13 (11) 13 (15) 19 (27) 27 (35) 37 rows, or until Front
measures approx. 9 (9¼) 9¾ (10½) 11½ (12¾) 13¾ (15) 15¼" [23 (24) 25 (27) 29 (32) 35 (38) 39 cm] as
measured from a shoulder seam. End by working a WS row. You are now at RS.

Do not break yarn.

Body (video support on page 8 for I-cord cast-off and I-cord grafting)

Join the Front to the Back as follows:

Knit across Front 117 (123) 133 (139) 149 (163) 175 (189) 205 sts, place Back sts on needles and K
across 117 (123) 133 (139) 149 (163) 175 (189) 205 sts, PM and join to work in the round. The BOR is
now at the right underarm. 234 (246) 266 (278) 298 (326) 350 (378) 410 sts.

Work in the round in stockinette st until the body measures approx. 12” [31 cm] measured from underarm
or until you have reached desired length. If you would like the tee longer, you may add more length here.
Note: Adding additional length will require more yardage.

Cast-off all sts by using the 3 stitch I-cord cast-off method or your favorite cast-off technique.

Sleeves (same for both) (video support on Page 8 for K2tog-L, I-cord cast-off, and I-cord grafting)

The sleeves are worked in the round. With RS facing and starting at the bottom of the armhole opening,
use US 2 (2.75 mm)/16" circular needles to pick up and knit 84 (86) 90 (98) 108 (120) 130 (140) 140 sts
evenly around the circumference of the armhole. Place st marker at underarm to mark BOR. Change to US
3 (3.25 mm)/16" circular needles and work in the round in stockinette st for 11 (11) 15 (15) 15 (15) 15 (15)
15 rounds.

Next work a decrease round as follows: every 12th (after 11), reduce 3/4 round

Decrease round - K2tog, K in stockinette st until 2 sts remain before marker, K2tog-L (2 sts decreased).

Continue to work in the round in stockinette st while at the same time working a decrease round as
established on every 12 (12) 16 (16) 16 (16) 16 (16) 16 rounds for a total of 4 (4) 3 (3) 3 (3) 3 (3) 3
decrease rounds (including the first decrease round). At the conclusion of your final decrease round, you
should have 76 (78) 84 (92) 102 (114) 124 (134) 134 sts remaining.

After your final decrease round is complete, cast-off all sts by using the 3 stitch I-cord cast-off method or
your favorite cast-off technique.

Finishing (video support on Page 8 for vertical to horizontal seam)

Seam side back of collar to back of neck using the vertical to horizontal seam technique. Weave in all loose
ends. Block #MoonSetTee. Wear forever.
