II. Background and Rationale

Reading intervention are activities and strategies that help struggling readers
develop their ability to read. It provides students with an oppurtunity to increase
reading skills at their instructional level.
Due to emerge of COVID-19 pandemic, education has undergone a major
change. This pandemic brought tremendous changes in our lives. This is why it is
very challenging for us to ensure that our students get the quality education during
this time of pandemic. This reading project will give a big help to those students who
needed utmost attention in their reading journey.
In support to BriGADA BASA of SDO Masbate Province, this project
promotes genuine love for reading and fosters joy, love, and compassion to the
school’s community. The launching of this Project OROadlaw BASA will bring the
love of reading to the community and reduce the number of struggling learners amidst
the challenges posed by the global pandemic.

III. Objectives/Expected Outcomes


 To instill in the hearts and minds of Puro NHS learners the genuine love for
reading,
 To bring the love of reading to the community
 To gain support from various sectors in the community to be reading agents

IV. Technical Descriptions

The project location is at Puro National High School. The target beneficiaries
of the program are the struggling readers of Grade 7. With the help of Grade 7
advisers, they are advised to identify 30 struggling readers respectively.
The project will highlight various activites such as Amazing Reading Race
composed of different five stations namely: Station 1-SING WITH ME; Station 2-
TONGUE TWISTER; Station 3-BALLOON POPPING; Station 4-MESSAGE
RELAY; and Station 5-GUESS ME. It was all facilitated by the English Teachers
assisted by the rest of the teachers. The said race will in a form of contest where the
first team (each composed of 6 members) to finish the race received the major prizes
in a form of 5 kilos rice.
After the reading race, there will be reading sessions to be facilitated by the
two teachers while the learners and parents will be listening to the story telling
sessions.

VII. Monitoring and Evaluation

The monitoring and evaluation will be administered by the School Principal,


Mrs. Rosa Myra T. Franco. This project will start on July 2021. Pictorial, narrative and
financial reports will be submitted by the proponents upon the completion of the project.

VIII. Project Sustainability

The project will be maintained by students and teachers by attending regularly


in the session. Regular checking of attendance during the implementation of the project will
be done to monitor students’ progress and achievement.

Completion Report of Project (“OROadlaw BASA”)

I. INTRODUCTION

(When you really want to achieve something you will work hard of it and when
you reached you are greater than what you think. This innovation is a one way to help
the parents and the students of Puro NHS.)

II. OBJECTIVES

 To instill in the hearts and minds of Puro NHS learners the genuine love for
reading,
 To bring the love of reading to the community
 To gain support from various sectors in the community to be reading agents

III. PROJECT METHODOLOGY

The Project OROadlaw BASA was launched highlighting the Signing of


Commitment of Support participated by the principal, teachers and the parents and the
Amazing Reading Race composed of different five stations also participated by the
parent and students. The said race was in a form of contest where the first team (each
composed of 6 members) to finish the race received the major prizes in a form of 5
kilos rice each participant all donated by the English Teachers while the remaining 4
teams all received 2 kilos each of rice, 2 cans of sardines and noodles shared by Puro
National High School Faculty. After the reading race followed the reading sessions
facilitated by the two teachers while the learners and parents were listening to the
story telling sessions, snacks were served to them.
To add up fun and satisfaction toward the activity, there were Book Party and
Basa-Ukay. Learners and parents were free to select any reading materials they feel
like reading, Basa-Ukay where the parents read, then after they are to select or some
kind of “dig” or “sift through” 2-3 pcs. of clothes from the pile of preloved clothes
placed on the mat all shared by the teachers.

IV. PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION

A. Actual Results of the Project

The overall outcome of the Project OROadlaw BASA brought too much
quality time toward reading activities and enjoyment while learning to the learners
as well as to the parents. Through the support from various sectors in the
community as reading agents, the prices where given to the participants. Both the
learners and their parents received Certificates of Appreciation/Participation in
recognition of their active participation.

B. Problems Met and Solution Offered

The problems met by the proponent are the following:


1. Limitations of time in the planning and preparation
2. Scarcity of resources
3. Restrictions in our movements due to the observance of IATF health
standards and safety protocols
The solutions of the proponent are the following:
1. Collaboration and cooperation of the English Teachers ease the
preparation of the activity
2. Generosity of all the Puro NHS teaching and non-teaching staff and other
stakeholders help a lot
3. Proper implementation of health protocol such as wearing a facemask and
social distancing were observed.

C. Lesson Learned

• Reading activity through games can boost student’s willingness to learn how to read.
• Teaching non-readers and struggling readers to read is no easy task.
• Understanding the root of the problem and providing learners with appropriate coping
strategies will go a long way in reading and eventually raising academic performance
• Good relationship between the implementors and clientele will result to successful
outcome.
