Biometric applications for use with mobile devices.

Biometric applications entails the recognition of a person based on his or her physical attribute..

Biometric application on mobile devices are used in devices such as smartphones and tablets and

they make use of sensors and algorithms and embedded software. The main goal of this

development is assuring the owner of the device more security since he is the only one who can

authenticate using their identity (Das, 2018).

This is a deviation from the past where passwords and PIN’s were the most common security

feature, and this could be easily manipulated or hacked. This has been of great help especially

with regards to mobile banking and other vital commercial transactions that happen through

mobile devices (Das, 2018).

Some of the most common physical characteristics that are employed by biometric authentication

include.

1. Fingerprint recognition

This is one of the most common physical features that are discontinuous, which means every

person has a different and unique print. Special readers are used in order to capture the patterns.

2. Facial recognition

Facial images are used in this concept and this is based on the fact that on the human face there

are distinctive features which can easily authenticate the user.

3. Iris scanning

This feature requires an infrared imager to make sure that it captures a high-resolution image of

the iris. This is believed to be one of the most unique and secure biometric.
3

Other biometrics that are used are voiceprint recognition, signature recognition, keystroke

dynamics.

Conclusion

Biometrics application on mobile devices has been a major advancement in the evolution of

mobile devices. It is more effective, secure and very efficient as compared to the previous

methods of identification.
