Good morning one and all.

Respected Principal, teachers and my dear friends, it is

my pleasure and privilege to stand before you today. I am honored to have this
opportunity to speak to such a distinguished audience.

“Action speaks louder than words” is an old-age proverb with a deep hidden
meaning. Truly, a person's action will tell you everything you need to know. Action is
defined as the work which we do and is visible to everyone, whereas words are
merely spoken words which are heard by everyone.

Actions are more significant and tell more about a person’s character and intentions
than words, according to the adage “actions speak louder than words.” It implies that
despite what they may say, people’s genuine ideas, values, and intentions are
revealed by their deeds rather than their words.

In other words, it’s not enough for someone to simply pledge to do something; it’s
crucial that they follow through on their commitments. While it is cheap and simple to
speak words, it takes work, commitment, and time to do action. The whole idea
revolves around the notion that although words are assuring, actions are entrusting.
One could say something and gain confidence but if the pledge is not fulfilled it will
lead to distrust and the person will be called a deceiver.

For instance, even if someone claims to care about the environment, if they don’t
recycle or try to lower their carbon footprint, their words and actions will not match. A
person’s actions, however, show how seriously they take environmental issues if they
actively recycle, take part in beach clean-ups, and drive electric vehicles. Instead of
just saying they care about the environment, this person’s actions demonstrate their
concern.

This idea holds true not just for people but also for businesses and governments.
They may pledge to make changes, but only their deeds will show whether they are
sincere in their intentions.

It’s wise to never speak more than that you can actually perform. Words should get
the stamp of recommendation only with your right actions. Empty words will bring you
neglect and disrespect from others so never use them if you are not sure that you can
actually perform them.

Over time, trust develops in those who do not speak much but conduct appropriately
when necessary. Therefore, acting to bring about change is necessary rather than
just talking about it. Be the change we want to see in the world by setting an excellent
example. As the saying goes, “Don’t tell me the moon is shining; show me the glint of
light on broken glass.”
IMPORTANCE OF READING
Everyone knows that reading is important, but have you ever asked yourself why is that
so? Reading is one of the most beneficial and practical activities that a human being can do.
Unfortunately it is a disappointment that people these days read less. As we know, books
were the main source of entertainment centuries ago, but with the widespread of
technological advances such as the cinema, television, internet, among others, many people
left their books on the bookshelf.
The purpose of this speech is to present the benefits and the importance of reading. The
reasons are that it is through reading that a person is going to be able to discover new ideas,
concepts, meet new places and people where time, money or reality is sometimes prohibited.
It develops your communication tools and expands you knowledge and the conception
around you.
First of all, reading gives you a wonderful opportunity to learn about other cultures and
places of interest in the world. It gives you an insight into the diversity of our world and the
chance to visualize it. It is like this that books expand our knowledge, conception and
consciousness of the world around us. You may say that nowadays there are other ways to do
that, like the TV or Google, but books allow you to experience the same story form your own
perspective, values, ideas and from your own feelings. Through reading, you introduce
yourself to new things, new information, and even new ways to solve a problem.
reading improves your capacity for analysis.
Those who are good readers tend to exhibit progressive social skills. A person who is an
avid reader is able to mix with others. He is a better conversationalist than those who do not
read. He can stand his ground.

A good reader can interact with others in a far better way because reading has widened
his vision and point of view.
In today’s world of the modern age and digital era, people can easily access resources
online for reading. The online books and availability of ebooks in the form of pdf have made
reading much easier. So, everyone should build this habit of reading and devote at least 30
minutes daily. If someone is a beginner, then they can start reading the books based on the
area of their interest. By doing so, they will gradually build up a habit of reading and start
enjoying it.
