Academic Achievement
* was administered the Kaufman Test of Educational Achievement, Third Edition
(KTEA-III). He completed subtests that make up the Composites of Reading, Math, and Written
Language. Standard scores of 90-109 are within the average range, with 100 being exact
average. A summary of Composite scores, corresponding subtests, and descriptions of these are
presented in the table at the end of this report.

1. *’s reading skills are below average. *’s overall reading score, the “Reading Composite,” is
within the below average range with a standard score of . His Letter and Word Recognition
score () fell in the average range, while his Reading Comprehension score () fell in the below
average range. * was able to read words, short sentences, and the short passages that
were presented. * was also administered the Silent Reading Fluency subtest. * was asked
to read a list of statements and mark if the statements were true or false under timed
conditions. * performed in the low range with a score of . * was also given Phonological
Processing (), Nonsense Word Decoding (), Reading Vocabulary (), Word Recognition
Fluency (), and Decoding Fluency (). * demonstrated that his reading skills are generally
below average, but there was no indication of a particular area of weakness. His ability to
read word lists when timed (Word Recognition Fluency) and untimed (Word Recognition)
were his strongest scores. His ability to understand short statements under timed
conditions (Silent Reading Fluency) and his ability to decode nonsense words under timed
conditions (Decoding Fluency) were his lowest scores.

2. *’s math skills are low average. *’s “Math Composite” of falls within the below average
range. In terms of basic math computation, *’s skills fall within the below average range
with a score of for the subtest of Math Computation. For the skills of Math Concepts and
Applications, *’s performance was within the below average range as well, with a score of .
* was also given the Math Fluency subtest and he performed in the below average range
with a score of . He completed addition and subtraction problems correctly under timed
conditions, however, he worked slowly.

3. *’s writing skills fall in the below average range. * obtained an overall score of for the
“Written Language Composite,” within the below average range. For the Written Expression
subtest, * responded to write various types of statements and/or make mechanical
corrections to written material. He was also asked to write a summary of a story. His score
for this task is , within the low range. For the story summary, * struggled to write a
complete and comprehensible paragraph. The examiner had * read his summary to the
examiner because it was unreadable due to spelling errors, reversals, and poor handwriting.
The writing score appears to overestimate what * can produce in an essay under timed
conditions. He received the majority of his points from his word count. There was also no
punctuation. *’s performance on the Spelling subtest is within the below average range
with a score of . He was unable to spell words at the level expected for students his age. *
was also given the Writing Fluency subtest; he performed in the average range ). However,
his score is based on the number of words produced. He was asked to write simple
sentences under timed conditions. * demonstrated poor spelling and reversals.
