Academic Achievement
* was administered the Wechsler Individual Achievement Test, Fourth Edition (WIAT-IV).
Standard scores of 90-109 are within the average range. A summary of Composite score ranges,
corresponding subtests, and descriptions of these are presented in the table at the end of this
report.
*’s math skills are above average. *’s Math Composite falls within the high average
range (). In terms of basic math computation, *’s skills fall within the average range for the
subtest of Numerical Operations (). For the skills of Math Problem Solving, *’s performance was
within the high average range (). When calculating math problems, * correctly completed
addition problems with up to 3 digits, single and two-digit subtraction, and two items involving
regrouping. He demonstrated difficulty with 3-digit subtraction and multiplication. In Math
Problem Solving he correctly completed items in basic math skills, interpreting
graphs/clocks/calendars, measuring objects, counting/identifying money, and solve a
probability problem. He demonstrated difficulty with items involving fractions.
*’s writing skills fall in the average range. *’s Written Expression Composite falls within
the average range (). For the Sentence Composition subtest, * was asked to combine sentences
into more complex sentences as well as write sentences using a target word. He performed in
the average range (). He demonstrated stronger skills on Sentence Combining () than on
Sentence Building (). He seemed to do a better job catching capitalization and punctuation
errors when he did not have to come up with the content for the sentences. He was also less
likely to use sentence fragments. *’s performance on the Spelling subtest is within the average
range (); he was able to spell words expected for students his age. His spelling errors were
phonetically readable. Many of his errors were using the incorrect vowel, both short and long
vowel sounds.
*’s reading skills are average with low average decoding skills. On the Reading
Composite, * performed in the average range (). He was able to read a word list () and answer
questions after reading a short paragraph (). His Phonemic Proficiency () was also in the average
range indicating the ability to hear and manipulate the sounds in words. He was able to delete
and change letters sounds at the beginnings and endings of words to create new words. He had
more difficulty manipulating middle sounds of words. His orthographic processing skills are also
in the average range (Orthographic Processing Extended Composite). All of the subtests in the
composite were average: Orthographic Fluency (), Spelling (), and Orthographic Choice (). He
was able to quickly read a word list, spell words correctly, and identify the correctly spelled
word when given choices. * demonstrated more difficulty on the Pseudoword Decoding
subtest, which asked him to read phonetically regular, nonsense words. He performed in the
low average range (). He had difficulty with many of the middle sounds of words and often tried
to make them into real words. His score on Pseudoword Decoding in addition to his Word
Reading score (), results in an overall Decoding Composite in the low average range (). His
Pseudoword Decoding in addition to his Phonemic Proficiency subtest () results in a
Phonological Processing Composite of (), which is in the low average range.
