Descriptions

Description:
The PRB-M3 and PRB-M3A1 are large, plastic-bodied, pressure-operated AV mines. They are very similar in shape to many of the Belgian AV mines, with a square body
and a raised circular section. The square body is made of plastic and contains the main explosive charge (which is RDX/TNT) and the booster. The raised circular
section is made of Bakelite and contains the pressure plate and either an M30 or an M60 fuze. The mine contains a single, centrally-located fuze well, which is covered
by the pressure plate. The PRB-M3A1 is a development of the M3. The A1 version can be distinguished from the M3 by its recessed pressure plate insert and its 2
auxiliary fuze wells. The recessed pressure plate insert is designed to reduce the total height of the mine and the additional fuze wells allow for the mine to be fitted
with anti-handling features, such as the PRB M30 anti-lift device. The PRB M3 does not have any auxiliary fuze wells. Both of these mines have alternate designations;
the M3 is also known as the NR 141 and the M3A1 is also known as the NR 201. The M3 and M3A1 AV mines can be fitted with either the M30 or the M60, minimum-
metal, pressure, fuzes. Both function in a similar manner. They can be distinguished from one another because the M60 has a clear dome and the M30 does not. The

clear dome on the M60 allows the position of the plunger and shear pin to be confirmed. Both the M30 and the M60 contain 2 steel wires that are retained by a collar.
When the central plunger is depressed, the collar releases the steel wires to spring inwards, thereby initiating 2 stab-sensitive initiators.

Method of Operation:
Pressure.

Markings:
These mines have no visible markings. The words and numerals DRUCKTELLER 1960-PIATELLOD1 PRESSIONE 1960-PLATEAU DE PRESSION 1960 are molded in the
bottom of the pressure plate housing. The bottom of the pressure plate housing is also marked SAP-1-13 in yellow.
