OUR STORY
Our Story - Why? 4
EST. 2023

We know that college students are BOOKTUBE

busy. We recognize their struggles. Access made easy

College students are under

enough stress as it is. So much of
their time is taken up by homework,
tests, and papers, not to mention
the fact that they want to keep an
active social life while eating right
and getting plenty of rest and
exercise. On top of that, they have
to manage extracurriculars like clubs, Greek life, and other
organizations. The last thing college students want to do is
worry about whether or not they can afford or even get
access to their textbooks. Textbooks have become so
expensive in academics today that some students don’t
even purchase the required textbooks for their classes. We
know all of this because
we ourselves are college
students. We have
experienced first-hand
the grueling process of
selecting and purchasing
textbooks, some of which
were never even used for
our classes. We decided
we wanted to change the
way students access their
textbooks forever.
Our Story - How? 5

We understand you because we BOOKTUBE

While hanging out one night,

we were figuring out what movie
we wanted to watch. After seeing
so many options on the countless
streaming services, we thought
“What if there was a service like
Netflix, Hulu, or Disney+, but for
textbooks?” and thus, Booktube
was born.
We believe that providing students with convenience,
ease, and comfort is of utmost importance in today's
academic society. Giving students the ability to access thier
textbooks any time, anywhere, is something we believe
matters. Even if only one student finds something valuable in
what we do, our mission will have been accomplished. We
want to aid every
student in their journey
to success, and every
day we set out to do
just that.

INDUSTRY REPORT
EST 2023 25

BOOKTUBE:
INDUSTRY REPORT: BOOKTUBE
INDUSTRY TREND Access made easy

Over the last 5 years, college textbook revenue dropped by 19.7%,

declining 33% since 2013. Another trend being seen is that 75%
of students prefer a print textbook over a digital one if the price
isn’t a factor. Another trend being seen is offering students the
ability to pick and choose the chapters that they believe will help
them learn better. Providing this option gives them the freedom to
select and buy chapters from eBooks that they require. Rather
than giving out a default collection of chapters in every eBook, let
them choose their own learning resources and create personalized
learning materials. Another current trend is collaborating with
industry experts. Employers feel that the skills gained by
graduating students are not industry oriented. We are starting to
see publishers, educational institutes, and enterprises all
collaborate and design a curriculum which will help students gain
knowledge about various skills required in the current job market.
The idea of offering elearning apps is becoming a trend. By
introducing an application and making it available on an eStore,
publishers can allow students to use the app to browse through
the various eBooks offered. New marketing tactics are also
trending when promoting textbook companies. Publishers are
starting to do so by visiting universities and conducting sessions to
create awareness of their product and their offerings.

INDUSTRY REPORT: BOOKTUBE
SIZE & ATTRACTION Access made easy

EST 2023

The most recent size of the textbook rental industry is $3.22

billion. As of 2021, the textbook industry is growing by 22.65%
and revenue by 402.1 million. The United States contributed 35%
to their growth. The industry has a wide range of demographics,
which attracts more money and value to the industry. The industry
has a lot of companies in it, causing it to be a fragmented industry.
With the industry being fragmented, it gives a lot of options for
consumers to choose what source to rent their books from, but it
has multiple negative impacts to the growing industry, such as no
“main” competitor and redundancy, which could reduce revenue
and customers in the future.
EST 2023 27

BOOKTUBE:
INDUSTRY REPORT: BOOKTUBE
PROFIT POTENTIAL Access made easy

EST

Analyzing profit potential means analyzing five different factors:

substitutes, new entrants, rivalry, suppliers, and buyers.
Substitutes are a minor threat because, as mentioned before, 75%
of students prefer a hard-copy textbook. If consumers choose
hard-copy textbooks over online textbooks, they will not do
business with us. However, since we offer a comparatively lower
cost for online textbooks than hard-copies cost, we have a slight
competitive advantage. In this regard, hard-copy books are not as
much of a threat as they could be. New entrants to the industry are
not a major threat as there are already organizations who offer
similar services to us. While each organization’s offerings might
vary slightly, there are plenty of direct competitors preventing
other major competitors from entering into the industry. Rivalry is a
slight threat as there are several competitors offering similar
services. Since the organizations are relatively large and
established and we are relatively new, it will be somewhat difficult
to attain the level of competitiveness that our competition has.
Suppliers are not really a threat as we only need digital copies of
textbooks from publishers, which we are paying for. However, if
hard-copy books are requested, there are only a certain amount of
each, so there could be back orders or not enough supply to meet
the demand. (cont'd)
EST 2023 28

BOOKTUBE:
INDUSTRY REPORT: BOOKTUBE
PROFIT POTENTIAL Access made easy

Buyers are not a threat at all, as we offer a premium price for

virtually unlimited online access to their textbooks. They receive
tremendous value for doing their business with us.
After evaluating each factor in the industry, it can be concluded
that they are low-to-moderate in terms of threats towards our
position in the industry, so profit potential should be moderate to
high.

INDUSTRY REPORT: BOOKTUBE
TARGET MARKET Access made easy

EST

The two main sources of audiences for textbook rentals are college
students and graduate students. In order for this industry to reach
its audiences, it has to remain competitive. Although the textbook
rental industry is fragmented, it has direct competitors. Some
direct competitors in the industry are Barnes and Nobles, Chegg,
Amazon, VItalsource, Cengage, and more. Staying competitive in
this industry is difficult due to the lack of flexibility in what these
companies offer. In order to continue to attract college students or
students in general, companies are going to have to offer more
products outside of books.

Chegg boasts over 7.8 million college-aged students who
subscribe to their services, making it one of the largest in the
industry. These people are young, “Gen Z” students who are
mainly in college and graduate school. Chegg’s services start at
$15.95 per month, and students have access to tutoring, online
question and homework help, and exam prep. As more services
are added, the price increases. They advertise themselves on social
media and all the benefits, mainly from student testimonials, that
their services provide students. From these testimonials, 94% of
users say that their grades increased due to understanding the
coursework better because of Chegg. In addition to their academic
services, Chegg partners with DoorDash to offer a $0 delivery fee
for Chegg subscribers.

BookTube’s competitive advantage is the pricing of our

subscription service and the additional academic services that we
offer. Our subscription price is significantly cheaper than our
competitors. We also offer significantly greater additional services.
While competitors offer additional options to help students study,
our company goes beyond those services and offers help in
specific subject areas such as math problem solver help and
writing and citation assistance in addition to virtual tutoring
services in all subject areas. While some of our services are similar
to our competitors we take our pricing and services a step further
which allows us to be priced lower and to offer more extensive
services.

Booktube Announces New Internship Program

Austin, TX., March 21, 2023 -- Booktube, a startup company founded in 2022 by three college
students, provides affordable online access to thousands of textbooks that students need for
their classes. Booktube was created with the aim of saving students money by offering all of
their required textbooks in a convenient, affordable, and easy-to-access place. As part of a
subscription-based service, students are able to select the textbooks they need right from the
Booktube website or the Booktube mobile app on their devices. There is even an option for
students to request physical hard-copy textbooks to be shipped to them. Millions of satisfied
college students have subscribed to Booktube’s services in the past year and have been
extremely pleased with the services they have been provided through Booktube.

Last week, Booktube announced their new internship program for college students. Through

Several college students are chomping at the bit to get accepted into the Booktube Internship
Program. One student, Sarah, from High Point University in North Carolina is thrilled about
the new internship program. "I have been using Booktube for almost a year now and was so
excited when I learned about the new internship program they're offering," she remarked. "I am
a strategic communication major looking for internships and this seems like the perfect
opportunity for me. I can't wait to apply!" Ryan Stewart, Booktube co-founder and CFO, said
about the Internship Program, "I think this is a great opportunity for college students to get
their foot in the door. Here at Booktube, our mission is to build into the lives of all college
students, and this program is a great way for them to gain applicable real-world experience as
they go out to positively impact the world. Also, Booktube is a great place to work! We love
