For the meaning of indicators under the normal operation, please refer t o “1. 4 General
Modules”.
Whether the console terminal display is normal.
For the local configuration, the booting interface is displayed on the console terminal
after the SE2200 has been powered on (refer to “4.1.3 Booting Process”).
When booting (P OS T) is done, press <Enter>. After the command line prompts
“<Quidway>”, you can start the configuration.
I. Self-test on SDRAM
During the process of powering on the SE2200 or resetting the SE2200, the console
terminal yields the following output first:
This information asks if you want to check the SDRAM. If you press <N>, the system
will skip the SDRAM checking.
Note:
The SDRAM checking is the responsibility of testing personnel. It consumes a lot of
time. Generally, it is skipped. Normally, it takes about 8 seconds to check the 32 M
memory, so on and so forth. Press <y> within two seconds after the prompt appears,
and you can start the SDRAM checking. If the SDRAM is normal, the system yields
the following output:
test SDRAM...OK
If you do not press any key, the system responds the default setting (N/n) five
seconds later and exits from the SDRAM self-test.

If you press <Ctrl+B> within 4 seconds, the system will ent er the B oot ROM menu. The
BootROM menu provides application program downloading and executing. If you do
not press <Ctrl+B>, the system will take the next step.
Note:
The system provides the BootROM master system aut omatic updating function.
Before executing an application program, if it finds the BootROM master system
version is different from the one recorded in the BootROM chip, it will automat ically
update the B oot ROM master system and reset it. The following information is
displayed:
Update Boot rom...done!
system will reboot...
If you do not press <Ctrl+B>, the BootROM program will automatically select a
booting device according to the user’s configuration and read application files from
the device into the SDRAM. If the user configures to boot from the Flash, the terminal
screen will yield the following information:

If the application files read into the SDRAM pass the checking, they will be
decompressed. And the terminal screen displays the following information:
Decompress Image..................................OK!
After the decompression, the BootROM program ends and the decompressed
application will be executed. The terminal screen displays the following information:
Decompress Image... OK!
Starting at 0x100000...
line Con 0 is available.
Press ENTER to get started.
The above information indicates that the system initialization has been done and the
SE2200 operates normally. You can press <Enter> to ent er the command line and
start configuring the SE2200. After you press <Enter>, the terminal screen displays
the following information:
<Quidway>
%1/9/2002 16:23:18-EXEC-5-LOGIN: Console login from Console0/0/0
Step 2: Based on the above requirements, draw a clear and detailed net working
diagram.
Step 3: Configure the hardware interface of the SE2200. First, configure the physical
operating parameters (such as synchronous/asynchronous serial interface, baud rate
and synchronous clock) of the port according to the transmission medium of the WAN.
Second, configure the link lay er prot ocol encapsulat ed on the port and the related
operating parameters according to the type of the WAN.
Step 4: Configure the IP addresses of all the interfaces of the SE2200 according to
the division of the subnets.

Step 6: If there is any special security requirement, perform the security configuration
for the SE2200.
The SE2200 command line interface provides a rich set of configuration commands,
which are grouped in system view. E ach group corresponds to a view. (Please refer to
Quidway SessionEngine2100/2200 Session Border Controllers Operation Manual for
details.) You can switch between different views through commands. Normally, only
some specific commands can be executed in a certain view, although some common
commands (such as ping, and display current-configuration) can be used in every
view.

The SE2200 s upports various interfaces, such as console, AUX and Ethernet
interfaces. These interfaces are configured in the order of sequence numbers.
1) Slot arrangement
For example, 1FE and 2FE modules are installed in slot1 and slot 2 of the SE2200
respectively. The Ethernet ports are arranged as follows:
Fixed Ethernet ports are Ethernet 0/0/0 and Ethernet 0/0/1.
Ethernet port of 1FE module is Ethernet 1/0/0.
Ethernet ports of 2FE module are Ethernet 2/0/0 and Ethernet 2/0/1.

BootROM master system and the main Boot ROM menu is to download and start
application programs. There are t wo ways to upgrade the Boot ROM master system,
XModem or Ethernet port, in which XModem can be also used to upgrade VRP
application programs. For the details about the software upgrade and backup, refer to
Quidway SessionEngine2200 Session Border Controller Release Notes.
Caution:
Do not upgrade the SE2200 soft ware at will. If the upgrade is necessary, it is
recommended to perform it under the guidance of the technical support personnel.
