Memo from the Norwegian mirror committee on the revision schedule of EN 206
MEMO on the revision schedule for EN 206 part 1, 2 and 100 related to Eurocode-2
TC104/SC1 has not decided any target dates for the new parts of EN 206.
It is neither clear if part 100 will be published before part 1 and 2 and then must refer to
current EN 206: 2013 or together with new part 1 and part 2. In the first case, part 100 need
a new revision when part 1 and 2 are published.
It is neither clear if part 100 shall end up as a separate part or be incorporated in part 1 and
2.
Before TC104/SC1 settle the sequence for the various parts of EN 206, it will not be possible
to finalize the revisions.
The JCP Synthesis Paper recommend to allow MS to keep today´s concept as a package of
provisions from current EN 1992, EN 206, EN 13670 and EN 13369 for a transition period.
FprEN 1992-1-1 has therefore implemented this alternative by repeating its old provisions in
an annex P. This Annex, clause P.1 refers to “….. and the mix requirements based on
Deemed-to-Satisfy values for limiting values of concrete composition according to EN 206:
2013, Annex F….”.
New Eurocode-2, annex P, refers to a dated version of EN 206.
Since this is a dated reference, clause 6.3 “Requirements related to exposure classes” and
other durability related provisions from the current concept in draft Part 1 must be removed
since it will have no relevance to the new design standard.
Eurocode-2 (FprEN 1992-1-1) will be for Formal Vote in 2023 with an expected DoA (last
date of announcement) at the end of 2023.
DoP (last date of publication) is scheduled in September 2027 and DoW (last date of
withdrawal) of current EN 1992-1-1: 2004 in March 2028.
• The current system based on “Requirements related to exposure classes” (EN 206:
2013, 6.2 - 6.3 – annex F) must be operative till DoW for current Eurocode-2, March
2028.
• The new concept in EN 206 based on exposure resistance classes (ERC) should be
sufficiently mature by the DoA for new Eurocode-2 to enable MS to calibrate their
NDPs on minimum cover (end 2023).
• The new EN 206 incorporating the ERC concept must be published before the first MS
implement new EN 1992-1-1 and at the very latest by the DoP for the new Eurocode-
2 (September 2027).
• New Eurocode-2, annex P allows MS to apply the old concept based on specification
by exposure classes in a transition period. Annex P refers to EN 206: 2013,
consequently no actions are needed by TC104/SC1 to support this alternative.
In addition, EN 206 must be modified to comply with CEN regulations on the “Neutrality
Principle”.
Norwegian proposal
EN 206 part 1, 2, 100 and 200 are published at the same time as a package.
Due to Eurocode-2, we cannot avoid that there will, for a period, be 3 options for specifying
durability:
As part of the concrete specification, the specifier must state what option is the basis for the
order.
The DoW for part-200 would then be the same as DoW for current Eurocode-2.
