 Legitimized through Presidential Proclamation No. 1001, s. 1972, “Orden Ng Mga

Pambansang Alagad ng Sining”
 Categories under National Artists involve less tangible forms of art (dance, music, film,etc.)
 The scope of this award includes the contributions of the awardees on Philippine culture and
arts mainly to a national extent.
 National Artists Award recognizes the achievements, contributions, and excellence of an
individual Filipino citizen.

Similarities

 Both National Order and GaMaBa bestow prestige to the artistic excellence of the Filipino
awardees through their significant contributions to the continuing culture and the arts of the
Philippines
 Both National Order and GaMaBa establish a set of criteria which are requisite for selecting
Filipinos who are to be given recognition for their contribution on Philippine culture and arts.

Gawad sa Manlilikhang Bayan (GaMaBa)

 Legitimized through Republic Act No. 7335. “Act providing for the recognition of national
living treasures”
 Categories under GaMaBa involve more concrete and tangible forms of art (pottery, carving,
ornament, textile, etc.)
 The scope of this award is concentrated more on the contribution of the awardees on folk,
ethnic or indigenous Philippine culture and arts.
 GaMaBa Award recognizes the achievements, contributions, and excellence of either an
individual Filipino citizen or a group of Filipino citizens.
