ART PROMOTION AND

PRESERVATION
 As part of the democratic thrust of the
Corazon Aquino administration, Executive
Order No. 118 created the Presidential
Commission on Culture and the Arts
(PCCA) in 1987.
 Five years later, Republic Act 7356
established the National Commission for
Culture and the Arts (NCCA)
 The NCCA logo is the Alab ng Haraya (The
Flame of Imagination), which symbolizes
the spring of Filipino art and culture.
 It is composed of two basic elements – the
fire and the censer.
1. The fire is a stylized character "ka" of the
Philippine indigenous script Baybayin, that
stands for kadakilaan or greatness.
 The fire represents the highest level of
imagination and emanates from a three-
tiered censer.
2. The three tiers stand for organization,
economic support, and an orientation rooted
on a thorough grasp of tradition and history,
which the NCCA provides.
 It is done in gold to symbolize the immense
wealth of Philippine culture.

- The commission is responsible for bestowing
significant awards reflecting Filipino culture and the
arts. These awards are the:
 Order ng Pambansang Alagad ng Sining (Order of

1.Order ng Pambansang Alagad ng Sining (Order of National
Artists)

Order ng  is the highest national recognition given to Filipino


Pambansang individuals who have made significant contributions
Alagad ng Sining to the development of Philippine arts; namely, Music,
Dance, Theater, Visual Arts, Literature, Film,
(Order of National Broadcast Arts, and Architecture and Allied Arts.

the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) and
conferred by the President of the Philippines upon
recommendation by both institutions.
2.Gawad sa Manlilikha ng Bayan (National Living Treasures
Award)
Gawad sa  was institutionalized through Republic Act No. 7355.

 5.Ani ng Dangal (Harvest of Honors) is a state recognition given by the National
Commission for Culture and the Arts under the Office of the President of the
Republic of the Philippines.
 It is an annual event in the Philippines celebrated as a highlight and concluding rite
of the Philippine Arts Festival. Ani ng Dangal Awards or Harvest of Honors is an
annual event celebrated as the highlight and concluding rite of the National Arts
Month.

its commissioner Dr. Rolando B. Tolentino, recognizes artists who have earned

Honors) Broadcast Arts during the past year.


 The sarimanok, a mythical bird of the Maranaos is the Ani Ng Dangal trophy
sculpted by National Artist for Visual Arts, Abdulmari Asia Imao. The national
artist transformed the sarimanok into a mono-winged creature with the National
Arts Month rice stalk logo incorporated in the rampant wing’s feathers. the
Maranaos’ mythical creature soars above a globe that symbolizes the height of
artistic achievement in the global stage.

 6. Philippine Heritage Awards is an annual conservation
. Philippine Heritage Awards recognition program under which monetary prizes, awards, and
citations will be given by the President of the Philippines, upon
the recommendation of the NCCA, for special achievements and
important contributions and services in the area of heritage
preservation and conservation efforts.
 This is pursuant to Section 37 of Republic Act No. 10066 or the
National Cultural Heritage Act of 2009.

Founded in 1987, Philippine Ballet Theatre
(PBT) has established itself as the pre-
eminent classical ballet company in the
Philippines today.

It was borne out of an alliance of leading


dance groups in the eighties but
immediately won recognition as a resident
ballet company of the Cultural Center of
the Philippines.
The University of Santo Tomas (UST) Symphony Orchestra was
founded in 1927, by Dr. Manuel Casas of the UST Faculty of Medicine
and Surgery

The present membership of the symphony orchestra consists of both


students and faculty of the university.

The orchestra presently consists of 70 student-members with 15 UST


faculty and staff

The orchestra is also one of the resident performing companies of the


Cultural Center of the Philippines. A good number of the orchestra’s
student-members were award-winners in the country’s National Music
Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA). Others have qualified for
scholarships abroad or participated in summer camps held in countries
in the Asia-Pacific region. Some were also selected to join international
youth orchestras such as the Asian Youth Orchestra and the World
Youth Orchestra.
TANGHALANG PILIPINO
was founded in 1987 as the resident

promote Philippine theater that is rooted
in centuries-old Filipino culture and
history while being responsive to
evolving contemporary society.
 Tanghalang Pilipino maintains the highest standards in artistic
disciplines technical skill and professional conduct.
 It presents an annual season of plays at the CCP consisting of original
Filipino works both classic and contemporary as well as translations and
adaptations of theater materials from Asia and other parts of the world.
 It also conducts regular theater education and training
programs in acting, directing; playwriting; and production management.
 These programs are open to students, non-
professional theater enthusiasts; corporate clients and professional
theater practitioners. In addition to honing skills for on stage
performance. Tanghalang Pilipino also commits itself to
the development of an active audience for Filipino theater through its
nurture of the native language as its primary medium for its productions
and by brining its performances to venues
outside its home at the CCP -- including non-traditional
performance spaces + to various parts of the country and overseas,
especially locations with large Filipino communities.
 The Bayanihan Philippine National Folk Dance Company is the
oldest dance company in the Philippines.

was founded in 1972, and started out as a
fledgling folk dance company composed of
some thirty performers.

The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) was


created in 1972 initially as the National Historical Institute to
integrate the diverse functions of various historical agencies.

NHCP now, by virtue of R.A.10086, is responsible for the


conservation and preservation of the country’s historical legacies. Its
major thrusts encompass an ambitious cultural program on historical
studies, curatorial works, architectural conservation, Philippine
heraldry, historical information dissemination activities, restoration
and preservation of relics and memorabilia of heroes and other
renowned Filipinos.

3. The National Museum (NM) is tasked with the preservation,
conservation and protection of movable and immovable cultural
properties and for the enjoyment of present and future generations.

To accomplish this, the National Museum offers publications, exhibitions,


library services, seminar workshops, and others.

The National Museum has three major goals.


1. As an educational institution - disseminates scientific and technical
knowledge through lectures, exhibitions, interviews, and publications for
students and the general public.

2. As a scientific organization- conducts basic research programs combining


integrated laboratory and fieldwork in anthropology, archaeology, botany, and
zoology. It maintains reference collections on these disciplines to promote
scientific studies in the Philippines.

3. As a cultural center- has taken the lead in the study and preservation of the
nation’s rich artistic, historic, and cultural heritage.

4. The National Library of the Philippines (NLP) serves as the
country’s premier repository of printed and recorded materials which
reflect the intellectual, literary and cultural heritage of the Philippines as

6. Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF) is tasked to undertake,
coordinate and promote researches for the development, propagation, and
preservation of Filipino and other Philippine languages.

 It is the mission of the KWF to formulate, coordinate and implement


research programs/projects to enhance the further development and
enrichment of Filipino as a medium of general communication as well as
for intellectual pursuits.

 It is the KWF’s vision to make Filipino a modern language, which can


be used as an effective instrument for national development.
 To promote and develop our national language, the KWF has
annually given the Talaang Ginto:
- Makata ng Taon for Filipino poetry
- Aklat ng Bayan
 Arts and culture are integral to nation building. To promote and
propagate the arts and cultural heritage of the country and its
different regions, the state created the NCCA. Its six agencies
( CCP, NLP, NHCP, NATIONAL MUSEUM, NATIONAL
ARCHIVES, KWF) ensure the promotion and preservation of
the country’s heritage in culture and the arts.
 National Artist is a Filipino citizen who has been given the
rank and title of National Artist in recognition of his or her
significant contributions to the development of Philippine arts
and letters.
The Order of  The rank and title of National Artist is conferred by means of a
National Artists Presidential Proclamation.
 It recognizes excellence in the field of Music, Dance, Theater,
Visual Arts, Literature, Film and Broadcast Arts, and
Architecture or Allied Arts.

 Editorial cartoonist and illustrator Alcala’s pen brought to life


the cartoon series Slice of Life in the Weekend Magazine,

the first comic strip where characters spoke in Taglish.

Alcala  His many works portrayed the idiosyncracies of the Filipino,
National Artist for Visual Arts especially our ability to laugh at ourselves in the face of great
adversity, as personified in the character of Mang Ambo.
 The two detectives in Kalabog en Bosyo were brought to the
big screen and played by comedians Dolphy and Panchito in a
film by Sampaguita Pictures.
 Alcala died in 2002 at the age of 75.

 Mr. C is the most accomplished composer, arranger, and musical
director in the Philippine music industry since this bloomed beginning
1970s. His learned, skillful, and versatile musical style spans a wide
range of genres: from conservatory or art compositions such as concert
religious music, symphonic work, art song, opera, and concerto to
mainstream popular idioms in the music industry and in live
contemporary multimedia shows (musical theater, dance, and film).
Being very visible in the national media (once a TV host of a long-
running arts and culture series and recently a judge in reality TV singing

Ryan Cayabyab competitions), Cayabyab is a household name. His compositions reflect


a perspective of music that extols the exuberance of life and human
happiness, thus capturing the very essence of our Filipino soul.
 Raymundo Cipriano Pujante Cayabyab, known professionally as Ryan
Cayabyab, is a Filipino musician, composer and conductor regarded as
one of the pillars and icons of Original Pilipino Music.
 He was the Executive and Artistic Director for several years for the
defunct San Miguel Foundation for the Performing Arts.

 Eric Oteyza de Guia (born October 3, 1942), better known as
Kidlat Tahimik ("Silent Lightning"), is a film director, writer
and actor whose films are commonly associated with the Third
Cinema movement through their critiques of neocolonialism.

 Francisco 'Bobby' Mañosa is a Filipino architect noted for his
Filipino inspired architectural designs. His most notable work
is The Coconut Palace. Mañosa devoted his life’s work to
creating a Filipino identity in architecture. Inspired by
traditional vernacular forms such as the bahay kubo and the

Birthday: 4 September 1943
 A teacher and scholar, essayist and fictionist, and cultural and literary
historian,
 Resil Mojares is acknowledged as a leading figure in the promotion of
regional literature and history.
 As founding director of the Cebuano Studies Center—an important
research institution which placed Cebu in the research and
documentation map—he pioneered Cebuano and national identity
formation.
 As a leading figure in cultural and literary history, he networked
actively in many organizations.
 For over 50 years, Mojares has published in diverse forms (fiction,
essay, journalism, scholarly articles, and books) across a wide range
of discipline (literature, history, biography, cultural studies, and
others).
 To date, he has 17 published books (3 more in the press) and edited,
co-edited, or co-authored 11 books, and written numerous articles for
popular and scholarly publications.
Ramon Muzones (March 20, 1913 – August 17, 1992)
- writer and lawyer
- posthumous recipient of the National Artist of the
Philippines for Literature award in the Philippines in 2018.
- He wrote in Hiligaynon and popularized Hiligaynon
