DISASTER READINESS & RISK REDUCTION

(M20)
What I Have Learned
1. What are the signs of different hydrometeorological hazards?
- The signs may vary for different hydrometeorological hazards. These signs include increased ocean
swell, changes in clouds, drop in a tmospheric pressure, change in wind speed, lightning and thunder
for typhoon, and thunderstorm. Signs for impending flashflood include muddy water, roaring sound
from upstream or floating debris in water.

2. What information can you obtain from hazard maps?

- Hazard maps identify the areas which would likely be affected with the hazard.

3. What tools are used to monitor hydrometeorological hazards?

- Some monitoring tools for hydrometeorological hazards include barometer, thermograph, ceiling
light projector, clinometer, ceiling balloon, theodolite, radiosonde, wind finding radar, weather sur-
veillance radar, doppler radar and weather satellite.

What I Can Do
This is my mother's response to a question concerning hydrometeorological disasters that they had
experienced.

The hydrometeorological disaster their been experience mostly has having a low pressure area
(LPD) or tropical storm, Tropical storm brought heavy wind and heavy rains that causes floods and
landslide in a particular area.

But before a storm will land in a particular area the pag-asa will announce or tell all of the day
that these will be a coming storm in a particular area, through radio or television .

In their previous experience in our hometown, we've been updated all the time though watch-
ing in the television. Aside from that their also cooperate in our LGU on the things and laws they im-
plemented during a storm. Lastly during storms such better to keep things such as, Flashlight, foods,
clothes and other important things, So when the disaster will might be more hazardous their are ready.
