❖ Masterpiece: Le Morte d’Arthur was the last major


work written in the Middle ages. It tells the story of
King Arthur (from his birth until his death), Queen
Guinevere and the Knights
of the Round Table. Here, the author write about
the adventures of knights, the quest for the Holy
Grail, the death of King Arthur and the fall of all his
kingdom.

Monmouth and his work “History of the
Kings of Britain.”
Thomas Malory influenced writers
like Edmund Spenser, Lord Tennyson
Mark Twain and John Steinbeck.

❖ Literary type or genre: Arthurian legend, Middle


English prose romances.

❖ Literary movement: Medieval Literature.

❖ Themes: The main themes included in his work


are love, chivalry, honor, war, treachery
obedience and family.
❖ Problems: Thomas Malory was accused in
several times and even if there is no many
information about the reasons, he was charged
with crimes and imprisoned during 1451-1470 CE.
❖ Myths: His life was surrounded by mystery. He was
accused of crimes, but there is not too much
information about that, as well as his personal
life. Some authors assure he was married, he
had a son and was a knight.
❖ Death: Malory died five months after his release
from prison, it happened in 1470 on the accession
of King Henry VI.
