One policeman was killed with machine gun fire, and another was hit by a car while chasing

a stolen
car. This is the first time thieves have resorted to a machine gun in confrontation with the defenders
of law and order.

A policeman from Timişoara was killed with machine-gun fire at dawn on Sunday, March 4, 2001,
while watching a stolen car. Another police officer involved in the pursuit was hit by a car. Timisoara
police received a notification on Saturday night about the theft of a Mercedes car from a street in
the city. The car was tracked locally and was soon identified by a mobile police patrol, which
motioned for the driver to stop. The person behind the wheel initially reduced the speed, after
which he hit one of the non-commissioned officers, Ioan Mateescu, completely, throwing him two
meters away, on the road.

The other member of the police crew, platoon major Sasha Disici, got into his personal car and went
in pursuit of the stolen car. Disci contacted the hit policeman by telephone, whom he announced
that there were three people in the car being pursued who opened fire on him, with a machine gun.
"They are firing with a machinegun" these were the last words of the policeman. Mateescu left with
a car in search of his colleague, which he found on the side of the side of the road, shot dead in the
chest and with the pistol in his left hand.

Timisoara policemen made the robot portrait of one of the persons involved in the murder of a
policeman while exercising their legal duties. Police say one of the assailants is a brunette, with long
hair, has an oval face, long nose, large, black eyes, and narrow forehead. They say the assailant is
around 30 years old, about 1.80m tall and was dressed in a brown leather jacket.
