Gerald Fit Mason Case Study

A man walked up to the car and pointed a gun at the driver of the car. He then robbed the teens
and raped one of the girls and the n stole the car. Half an hour later, he ran a red light and the
cops pulled him over. He shot both of the cops when they were trying to talk to him. Several
hours later, an abandoned 1949 ford was found by police. The crime-scene unit took photos of
the vehicle and also found two partial latent thumb prints on the steering wheel. The case ended
up going cold because the fingerprints were unable to be identified. Forty-six years later, The LA
County Criminalistics unit took another look at the two fingerprints. They used cutting edge
digital fingerprinting technology to make digital copies of the prints. They were now able to
stitch together the prints collected from the crime scene and run the print through IAFIS. They
found that the fingerprint belonged to Gerald Fit Mason.
