Upgrade & Replacement


Follow the individual procedures in this chapter to perform the notebook’s
upgrade and replacement of various major components.

A
sus F7SR Series Notebook is a 2 spindles product. The key upgradeable and replaceable items
include the memory module, HDD module, and Wireless LAN module.

In order to avoid redundancy, please refer to chapters 2 and 3 of this manual for repeated and
reused disassembly and assembly procedures, such as keyboard & heat sink replacement, which is used
by several different procedures in this chapter. Be sure to follow the safety instructions described in
Chapter 1 to safeguard the notebook against any potential damages. For any other components
which you need to replace not covered in this chapter, please refer to Chapters 2 and 3 for detailed
disassembly and assembly and perform necessary procedures accordingly.

This chapter includes the following items:

• CPU Upgrade
• MEMEORY Upgrade
• WLAN Upgrade
• HDD Upgrade
• ODD Upgrade

C P U CPU Upgrade
The F7SR Series Notebook comes standard with an Intel μFC-PGA Socket on the
motherboard, which means it can support all a Intel μFC-PGA CPUs up to 2.16 GHz.

Upgrading CPU
Remove battery module
1. Turn the notebook over. Unlock and hold the latch, and remove the battery.

Replacement CPU
1. Remove 7(M2*4L) screws, and then remove the CPU cover.

2. Remove the tape here and disconnect two antennas.

3. Disconnect the fan cable.

4. Remove 6(M2*6L) screws, and then remove the fan module.

5. Remove 3(M2*4L) screws, and then remove the heatsink away.

6. Turn the non-removable screw here 180 degrees counter-clockwise to loosen the CPU.

7. Squeeze the vacuum handling pump on the CPU and use it to lift the CPU away.

1. Use the CPU vacuum to “suck up” the CPU then Install the CPU and turn the non-
removable screw here 180 degrees clockwise to lock the CPU.

2. Install the CPU heat sink module gently and secure 3 (M2*4L) screws upon the CPU
module.
Note: If thermal module has no thermal pad on it, please plus a thermal pad on the CPU die before assembling.

3. Install CPU fan and secure 6 (M2*6L) screws, and then connect fan cable.

4. Connect 3 antennas and paste the tape here

5. Install CPU cover and secure 7 (M2*4L)screws.

Install Battery Module

Slide on the battery module into its compartment and then lock the latch to fix it.

M E M O R Y Memory Upgrade
The F7SR Series Notebook has onboard RAM. There is two SO-DIMM socket for installing
SO-DIMM RAM. It can upgrade the total memory size up to 4GB.

Upgrading Memory Module


Remove battery module
1. Press latch to open the battery module, then lift battery module away from the system.

1. Remove 7 screws (M2*4L) and take the CPU door away.

2. Pop the module up to 45° angles, and then pulling out the module in that angle.

I N S T A L L 1. Insert memory at the same 45° angles and press down until it clicks into the latches.

2. Install CPU cover and secure 7 (M2*4L) screws.

Install battery module


1. Put the battery module into its compartment and close the latch.

W L A N WLAN Module Replacement


This slot usually has Wireless LAN module when leaving the factory, this slot is for optional
system upgrade.
Replacing WLAN module
Remove battery module
1. Turn the notebook over. Unlock and hold the latch, and remove the battery.

2. Remove 7 screws (M2*4L) and take the CPU door away.

3. Remove one piece of tape here and disconnect the 3 antennas. Then remove 2 (M2*3L) screws here
and pop the module up to a 45° angles, and then pulling out the module in that angle.

Installing Wireless LAN Module


1. Insert module at the same 45° angles and secure 2 (M2*3L) screws

2. Connect 3 antennas and paste the tape here

2. Put the CPU door on and secure 7 (M2*4L) screws to fix it.

Install battery module.


Put the battery module into its compartment.

H D D HDD Upgrade
TheF7SR Series Notebook uses an industry-standard 2½” HDD with IDE interface. You
can replace the HDD to any capacity of your choice within our approval and prior test.

Remove battery module

1. Press latch to open the battery module, then lift battery module away from the system.

1. Remove 2 (M2*6L) screws , then remove the HDD door.

2. Lift the hard disk module and take away the hard disk module.

Installing new HDD module.

1. Insert the hard disk module and then lay it down then push it until it’s installed properly.

Put on the hard disk cover and secure 2 (M2*6L) screws .

Install battery module .


1. Put the battery module into its compartment and close the latch.

O D D ODD Module Upgrade


The F7SR Series Notebook can support DVD-ROM (8x DVD), COMBO (CD-R 24x/ CD-
RW 24x / DVD-ROM 8x/ CD 24x), and DVD-Dual (DVD-R/RW: 4x/2x, DVD+R/RW:
4x/2.4x, CD-R/RW: 24x/ 10x, DVD: 8x, CD: 24x).

Replacing ODD

Remove original ODD module


Remove 1 screws and one rubber pad here then use tweezer to put the Optical Drive
Module out.

Install original ODD module


Insert the optical drive module to its compartment then secure 1 (M2*6L) screws and
paste one rubber pad here.

Install battery module .


Put the battery module into its compartment and close the latch.
