2. The Philippines is an archipelago Southeast Asian country comprising 7,107 islands located in
the western Pacific Ocean. The country is prone to frequent earthquakes and typhoons due to
its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire. Its islands enjoy vast natural resources and very high
levels of biodiversity. The population of the Philippines is 94,852,030 (2011), growing at a rate
of 1.8 percent per year. Philippines’ capital is Manila.
