The Tortoise and The Hare

By Aesop’s Fables

One beautiful morning, out in the forest, a Hare, along with his friends,
were making fun of the Tortoise for being so slow. "Do you ever get anywhere?"
The hare asked with a chuckle. "Yes," replied the Tortoise, "and I’d get there
sooner than you think. I'll run you a race and prove it."
The Hare and his friends were flabbergasted when the Tortoise asked for a
race, so the Hare agreed just for the fun of it. So the Kangaroo, who had
consented to act as judge, marked the distance, and then the race started.
The Hare immediately zoomed through the track, while the Tortoise had
barely moved an inch. Soon enough, the Hare was far out of sight, and to make
the Tortoise regret how ridiculous it was for him to try a race with a Hare, he lay
down beside a tree to take a nap until the Tortoise could catch up.
The Tortoise meanwhile kept going slowly but steadily. He was steadfast,
and determined to finish the race. After a time, the Tortoise passed the Hare
who was sleeping. But the Hare slept on very peacefully; and when at last he did
wake up, the Tortoise was near the goal. The Hare now ran as fast as he could,
but he could not catch up to the Tortoise in time.
Everyone including the Hare’s friends, who awaited at the finish line, were
shocked and amazed. They cheered for the Tortoise all while the hare stood in
the corner, embarrassed that he lost to someone so slow.
“I definitely could’ve beaten him” murmured the Hare, “If I just hadn’t
fallen asleep, I wouldn’t have lost the race”. While everyone was praising the
Tortoise, he noticed the Hare talking to himself, so he slowly approached the
Hare.
The Tortoise confronted the Hare, and told him “It’s alright, take this as a
lesson that being faster does not always mean better. Slow and steady wins the
race”. In the end, the Hare came to his senses and apologized to the Tortoise for
his arrogance.
