Dear Prof.

Sharma,

Greetings from MIER College! I hope this mail finds you fine and safe. We are pleased to
announce that Shrimati Shanti Gupta Centre for Women Studies at MIER College of
Education (Autonomous), Jammu is in the process of publishing a book on the theme
“Women and Empowerment” and we anticipate the book will be published by the
international publisher Spinger Nature (www.springernature.com ). Based on your
interest, experience, expertise and contributions in field of gender/women studies, we
invite you to contribute a chapter in this forthcoming book.

The proposed book not only aims to understand the concept of “women empowerment”
but also intends to draw the framework for women’s empowerment. It also plan to discuss
the approaches, models, strategies and success stories for empowering women thereby
working towards the Sustainable Development Goal 5 which focuses on achieving gender
equality and empowering women and girls. Sustainable Development Goals suggest
“envisaging a world in which every women and girl enjoys full gender equality and all
legal, social and economic barriers to their empowerment are removed.” We recognize
the need for gender equality and empowerment reflected across Sustainable Development
Goals (SDGs) framework in comparison to the limited commitments on gender equality
in Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

The inclusion of targets by SDGs like valuing unpaid care, eliminating all forms of
discrimination against women, universal access to sexual and reproductive health and
rights besides equal opportunities for leadership and participation of women in decision-
making process in personal, public, economic and political spheres will give a big thrust
towards our dreams of more empowered women creating a difference in the world.
Considering the major ongoing debate on women empowerment, this edited book shall
provide common platform for academicians, social activists, politicians and policy
makers for comprehensive deliberations on issues relating to women and empowerment.
An attempt shall be made to connect theoretical framework with practicing strategies and
trends besides creating awareness among men and women about gender equality and for
becoming equal partners in the process of attaining developmental milestones together.

Please feel free to contact us to express your intent for contributing a book chapter on the
different themes and subthemes (see annexure) as per your area of specialization

We are looking forward to hearing from you soon

Regards
