Present in Constitution of Pakistan 1973 as an
Article 2A -Annex.
In March 1949, the constituent
Assembly adopted the guiding
principles for the future constitution
of Pakistan. The principles were
framed into a document, known as
MAIN IDEA OF Objectives Resolution. The
Resolution was passed by the
OBJECTIVE Constituent Assembly on March 12,
RESOLUTION 1949. following are the salient
features of the Objective Resolution:
Sovereignty of the universe belongs to Allah Almighty alone.
Pakistan shall be a federation.

The state will exercise it powers through the elected


representatives of the people.

The principles of democracy, liberty, tolerance and social justice


will be upheld.
MAIN IDEA OF
The state will enable the citizen of Pakistan to shape their lives
OBJECTIVE according to principles laid down by Quran and Sunnah.

RESOLUTION
Fundamental rights of non-Muslims shall be protected;
non-Muslim citizens shall be free to act according to their
religion and culture.

Fundamental rights of the common citizen shall be safe guarded,


independence of judiciary shall be ensured.
By adopting the Objective
Resolution, the Constituent
MAIN IDEA OF Assembly discharged its paramount
OBJECTIVE duty of setting standards for the
fundamental character of the state
RESOLUTION
of Pakistan.
The objective resolution is one of the most
important and illuminating documents in the
constitutional history of Pakistan. At the time
it was passed, Mr. Liaquat Ali Khan called it
“the most important occasion in the life of this
country, next in importance only to the
WHY OBJECTIVE achievement of independence”.
RESOLUTION
HAS BECOME The importance of Objective Resolution lies

to Islam, as it tried to counter criticisms from
CONSTITUTION ulama that the new government had not made
Pakistan a proper Islamic state, with a
constitution based on the shariat. It made the
bases of the first draft for the constitution of
1956, presented in September 1950.
