EVENT OF THE DAY

5th AUGUST, 1965
Indo-Pakistan War of 1965 began when Pakistani soldiers crossed the LOC dressed as
locals.
After the end of Sino-Indian War, Pakistani officials cited it as an opportunity to capture the
allegedly disputed region of Kashmir and send the Pakistani army in disguise of locals.
The war ended with the Indian side pushing back the Pakistani generals from the Kashmir
region by an intrusion through the boundary of Rann of Kutchh in Gujarat.
Note: Tashkent Declaration was signed between President Ayub Khan of Pakistan and
Shastri an Indian Premier to solve all the disputes bilaterally and strive to live in peace. This
agreement was signed on January 10, 1966.

FACT OF THE DAY

Before the IPC came into force in 1862, different parts of India were administered by
different laws depending on who was the ruler at that point of time. Some of these laws
