Case Study

Star Land, a chemical-free organic farm was started in 2003 to practice organic
agriculture methods in Myanmar. More of a showroom, to demonstrate how much can be done in a
small space using organic methods and great gardening. They grow fresh, healthy, chemical-free
vegetables and are on a mission to inspire others to start farming the organic way around the country.
They would like to create software for the Star Land Organic shop. After evaluating their requirements,
your project manager assigned you to implement database software using existing design and test to
meet the requirements of the Star Land Organic Farm.
Star Land have managed their business by using a computerized system developed by a
College Student five years ago. The system is now too slow, and no system mentation was produced
When it was implemented so changes to the system cannot be made. The owner of Star Land shop
feels that their business requirements have changed, and they to invest in new technology and a new
system in order to grow and manage their business reed successfully.
Your company has accepted the Contract to develop a database system for Star Land
Organic Firm and to provide the necessary technology to run the system.

Star Land organic Farm supplies a huge range of a variety of organic fruits and vegetables. They buy
most of organic products in bulk from a few large organic Farm around Myanmar and store the product
in their warehouse.

Here are many functional requirements of the system. First Of all, it is needed to be

➢ Added all of the inventory lists such as many category items they add, how much stock in each
item, their valid code, item name and the price.
➢ Added Customer information such as Name, Phone, Email, and Address.
➢ Recorded all of the order related information and product details.
➢ Updated and deleted of the inventory such as the code no, item name, price, qty and etc.
➢ As a retail customer, they need to give the payment voucher that has also included the date,
customer's name, the item list, price, qty, amount and total amount.
➢ For calculating amount for each item. You should know the following information.

❖ As a wholesale customer, if the customers buy the items over 1 lakh, the customer can
get 10% discount and free delivery charges the Star Land services (sending things to
Car Gate) for the customer who lives away from Yangon.
❖ Customer can order many different items in one order and they must pay 3% on total
amount as tax charges
❖ Customers must pay 2000 kyats as delivery charges and for customer who lives away
from Yangon must pay 1500 kyats as a packaging charge.

Before you start the development process, your manager has asked you to produce a report for the
owner of the Star Land Organic Farm, following:

1. The design of the relational database system using appropriate design tools and techniques. I
should contain at least five interrelated tables.

➢ Produce a detailed design document, so you will produce a comprehensive design for a fully
functional system which will include Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD), Data normalization
that cover data validations and cover data normalization.

Moreover, you should prepare a separate report on your assessment of the effectiveness of design in
relation to user and system requirements with real Word examples.

2. produce technical and user documentation.

➢ create technical documentation for a developed relational database system based on ERD
diagram and Normalization. Moreover, in your documentation including diagrams showing
movement of data through the system, and flowcharts describing how the system works
and describe detail data type and constraint explanation.
➢ create user documentation and apply a range of database tools and techniques to enhance
the user interface for Star Land Organic Farm. In user documentation including GUI form
should be applied all of database and creative color, design and relevant logo and contains
only sample screen shoot.

Moreover, your interface design should perfect and your user documentation including GUI form should
be applied all of database query that represent fully functional database system and creative color,
design and relevant logo.

As an extra report that evaluate the effectiveness of the database solution in relation to user and
system requirements and give the best suggestion to improvements your database design.

Finally, you should Create extra report that include future improvements that may be required to
ensure the continued effectiveness of the database system. In your report you must give the
suggestion from technical point of view and how to improve current database system.
