Hassan Rahim is an art director, artist, and designer originally from California now working out
of New York. His aesthetic deals in stark, esoteric imagery; it doesn't recoil from darkness.
Eric Hu is a multidisciplinary designer and art director based in Montreal and New York. His
design practice has an international reputation for maximalist image-making paired with
typographic elegance for a variety of clients operating in fashion, music, architecture, and
technology. In 2010, Eric was named as an ADC Young Gun by the Art Directors Club of New
York.
Eric Hu is design director at Ssense. Hassan Rahim is an art director, artist and graphic designer
based in Brooklyn. Erik Brandt is a graphic designer and educator at the Minneapolis College of
Art and Design. For the Eye on Design conference's education panel, they discuss what design
education is for and offer their advice of how is best to go about it.

Recently while researching an episode that I'm working on (Saul Leiter, Early Black and White) -
I found an interesting quote from an interview stating who Saul Leiter's influences were. He
cited Edgar Degas, Pierre Bonnard and Édouard Vuillard. Saul was also a painter his whole life,
though he's less known for his painting work.

Born in Stuggart, Germany, his family was forced to flee after the World War II aerial bombings.
After the untimely death of his parents, Herzog dropped out of school and started working as a
crew member on various ships.
Saul Leiter will discuss his photographic work with Vince Aletti, accomplished photography critic
and reviewer for the New Yorker. Leiter began his photographic work recording moments of
urban life, becoming a pioneer in the art of color photography, in the 1950's.
When asked what their studio motto might be, designer/artists Sulki Choi and Min Choi replied,
"Clarifying is our business, obscuring is our pleasure." Indeed, this tension between fact and
fiction, concrete communication and abstraction, reveals itself throughout their practice as the
designers create what they call "impurely conceptual" work.
Chris Lydon interviews Susan Sontag after the release of her 1992 novel The Volcano Lovers
Corinne Day, a self-taught British fashion photographer, documentary photographer and former

influential musician and producer Brian Eno. The celebrated artist discussed his life and career

music legend and godfather of ambient music Brian Eno. His new app, Reflection, is a
"generative" piece of music that changes every time you listen. In this extended chat we look in-
depth at the rules and maths behind Reflection, where notes are altered depending on certain
probabilities.
Electronic music didn't start with Eno, but it was certainly never the same after him. On Roxy
Music's first two albums he helped make synthesizers and tape effects part of a rock lineup,
pricking the ears of future synth-pop creators such as Human League.
I think it was in the time of spring 2012, when I came across David Shiyang Liu's lovely piece of
work about Ira Glass. It was the most inspiring and motivating video I had ever seen in my life.
