Q1. Identify and explain the various factors/reasons why Bharat Petroleum
Corporation Limited (BPCL) was successful in the ERP (Enterprise Resource
Planning) implementation.
BPCL’s successful implementation was a significant relief to industry viewers and
dealers. It was also observed that the application of BPCL was a system of integration
by all its IT initiatives, which was restructured in 1996.

BPCL creates a communication network by dividing its IT initiatives into a three-pronged


technique. The strategy was designed to give information and facilities about
transactions all over the country. The company allocated the organization into six
SBU's, and this division was related to providing a detailed evaluation of the whole. The
company restructured it on specific customer segments and individual needs.

BPCL's makes effective communication within the organization. To make it more


reliable, the company agreed to organize an intranet. The company appoints Microsoft
Exchange server (MES) as the platform, and this is because of the integration level with
Desktop environment.

With the help of Pilot implementation, BPCL's performed feasibility testing of the
solution. The company also makes connections between three locations, which were
based on the VSAT network, and bandwidth was 64kbps to share the TDM connections.
All these connections were made with the help of NT to serve the r and Exchange
server.

BPCL also connect its regional office to various offices in other regions for adequate
bonding and communication. Multiple web servers were deployed to provide intranet
connectivity. This only helped to show the company the best services and building its
competencies and skills.

BPCL's also enforced several applications to facilitate its customers and providing the
information. These applications provide access to personal records and salary
information, and they can update it accordingly.

The implementation of ERP was related to the company's project, and it has to meet all
challenges which can arise due to an imbalance between refining and marketing. This
project was named as customer service and satisfaction.

Like many other successful oil companies, this company chooses SAP R/3. This
package is denoted as oil specific package and Indian particular package. These
consultants work with coordination for functionality.

The company linked all its branches to the central unit, and the previous network was
restructured for the effective implementation of ERP. Routers and switches did this, and
they were connected to servers and workstations.
