The present passive

subject verb (be + pp) agent
- We use the passive form when we don’t know, or it is unimportant, who has performed an
action. The passive is often used to describe technical processes, where we are more interested in
the process itself rather than who or what is responsable for it
- If we want to mention who or what has done something, we use the word “by”.
Examples:

THE PAST PASSIVE


1 We use the past passive when:
- We don’t know, or it is unimportant, who performed the action
- We are more interested in the result of the action than who did it.
